We treed a MONSTER last night!!!

ONE OF THE BIGGEST COONS WE’VE EVER TREED!

THIS SUCKER WAS HUGE! HERCULES AND JR TREED IT. A BUDDY OF OURS REDBONES WERE SPLIT ABOUT 20 YARDS AWAY, LOOKED AND LOOKED COULDN’T FIND ANYTHING IN THEIR TREE.

WE’VE NOT WEIGHED IT YET, BUT WHEN WE DO, I’LL LET YA’LL KNOW HOW MUCH IT WEIGHED.

I’LL GUARANTEE IT GOES OVER 20. IT’S HUGE, THESE PICS DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE.

THIS COON WAS TREED ON GAME LANDS, AND WAS TOTALLY WILD. HERCULES PUSHED IT HARD.

WE’VE RAN THIS COON FOR THE LAST MONTH, AND IT USUALLY MAKES IT TO THE DEN TREE. WE GOT TO TURN LOOSE A LITTLE EARLIER LAST NIGHT, AND I’M TELLING YA WHEN HERCULES WENT ACROSS THE TOP WITH IT HE MUST HAVE BEEN BITING ON IT’S A$$ BECAUSE IT WASN’T BUT JUST A MINUTE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN AND HE WAS TREED SOLID. JR WAS NOT TO FAR BEHIND HIM.

LEVI AND QUINCY WITH THE COON

JUST SOME REFERENCE PICS SO YOU CAN SEE HOW BIG THAT THANG IS!!!

OUR TAILGATE IS 54 INCHES LONG X 18 INCHES WIDE

OUR DOG BOX IS 38 INCHES WIDE

SO YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH USE A MEASURING TAPE AND SEE HOW BIG IT WAS!!!

I'VE GOT BETTER PICS ON MY CAMERA, I'LL ADD THEM WHEN I CAN. IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME LENGTH FROM TIP OF NOSE TO TIP OF TAIL AS OUR DOG BOX IS WIDE.

QUINCY, LEVI, AND MYSELF WERE TALKING ABOUT THE SIZE DIFFERENCE FROM THE COONS HERE TO EVERYWHER ELSE, AND I WOULD LOVE, JUST ONE TIME TO GO TO A TREE, AND SEE A 30LB COON LOOKING BACK AT ME.

Christy,

Nice coon! I bet ya the inventor of duct tape never saw that use of his product in his mind while he was developing his product.

I am sure Jeff Foxworthy would have something funny to say if he saw your picture.lol

This certainly is a good size coon for your part of the world. I will quote a certain ecological principal known as "Bergmann's Rule", which states that the farther north you go, the larger the animals tend to be. This is due to heat conservation; the bigger the critter is, the less is the ratio of surface area to body volume. The further south you go, they tend to get smaller for the same reason, so that they can dissipate heat more readily during hotter months. Here in Upstate New York we occasionally get a monster of thirty or more pounds. Had one fall on my head once when I was hunting by myself and I shot it out and then I saw stars. Oh well, you gotta get your adventures somewhere.

Gooden

I see crutches in one pic. I hope you gave him a fair chance to make it to the tree first. LOL!!
I used to live in Asheville and have been to the Sylva club and hunted there. I couldnt go back and tackle the mountains again.

I love my flat land here in MO.

I killed one good size coon the whole time I lived there in Averys Creek. The coon that size are hard to come by out in the mountains.

I don't think there are as many 30 pound coons as people let on, I don't care where you hunt. The northern coon are bigger no doubt but most of the 30 pounders you here about were never accurately weighed just estimated the weight. JMO a nice coon is a nice coon though.

I agree with Perry. I live where there are a few every year, but no where near the number people think. The biggest one I ever shot out, I carried 3/4 mile back to weigh it because I knew it was pushing 40#. Put it on the scales and it weighed33#. A real learning experience.

Anyone ever get a real big one in a box trap? I caught one that weighed 39#. I don't even know how he got caught because he absolutely filled it. I honestly thought I had someone's dog caught in it when I walked up. I let him go right there because I figured if he lived to be that big, he was healthy and had good genes to keep passing. I was pretty content to watch him just waddle up the creek when I opened the door.
