What stud out there is known for reproducing Track dogs? I have purchased several pups over the last six years that are out of the rage of the age stud dogs and If these are what we are banking our Walker future on,we are in some serious trouble. In my opinion, Dogs become slick treeing idiots because they have no ability or desire to work out a track. I am tired of investing hundreds of dollars in pups and training time, that have no ability or desire to track and get it right. I can substanciate my claim by seeing other young dogs out of the same studs doing the same thing. These young dogs our simply running out there and having a treeing contest and at best handlers hope for a hole in the tree to get enough circle points to win a cast. Is this really what coonhunting has turned into? I am currently raising two fighten side pups out of good,accurate females that I hope will turn things around in my kennels. NOTE: Do you feel the frustration in my question?

I think part of the problem lies with hunters wanting a pup to tree it's head off by 6 months old. We as a group don't seem to be willing to let the traits like tracking ability develope with time. I believe that the pup derbys and SS program are part to blame for that. A well rounded dog generally needs a GOOD season to develope and hunters aren't willing to wait. In the mean time we keep going back to the early treeing type of dog and they generally lack track. How do we turn it around?

Everyyone seems to have a different idea as to what a trackdog is.
I dont think many would know a good one if they saw it.

Good track dogs get treed first, are accurate and dont run by coon.

They are out there, but there will never be many of them nor will there ever be a stud that consistantly throws them.

If you want track dogs you need to look for a strain of walkers that are known to be good track dogs, not a particular stud dog. You need to find a strain that's built on linebreeding good track dogs for generations. The problem is, people don't advertise strains in the magazines, just stud dogs.

A good track dog is a dog that runs each and every track like they are tied to it. They run that track with one intention, and that is to catch that coon by the tail.

From what I am seeing, Gr.Nt.Ch. 'PR' Diamond Point Ransom is throwing track dogs. Ranson is Charley Creek bred top and bottom. He only has 28 pups on the ground, and 3 of those are Nt.Ch.

The guys with these lines are typically the guys who don't blow their own horns very well. I see a couple above that fit that bill.

I think Josh nailed it. Don't matter if I'm pleasure hunting, hide hunting or trophy hunting, the best track dog is the one that trees the most coons fastest.

I pound the same patches nite after nite in sub-freezing temps, full moon, no clouds, hard frost before you leave the house and come home thinking my dog can't trail a coon in those conditions. Then I take a nite, drive a ways to some good timber that don't get pounded and all tha sudden I got a cold nose, grub'em out, track driving coondog. It's all just relative.

I HAVE 2 OUT OF SUN THAT ARE 20 MONTHS OLD. BOTH PUPS ARE COON TREEING RASCALS ALONE OR IN COMPANY. BOTH HAVE A COON MOST OF THE TIME AND CAN MOVE A TRACK. DON'T KNOW IF ALL SUN PUPS ARE THAT WAY OR IF THEY TAKE AFTER THEIR MOTHER.

Obviously I have not been afraid to hunt Cornell anywhere.He has been in alot of different states in front of alot of people.Thick coon of Michigan,thin coon of Tennessee the fun coon hunting in Texas.The awesome Missouri hunt of Russ Meyers,all over Illinois,Indiana and Ohio's great population.And he is not retired!!

I have been following these hounds for 35 years. In addition, I am a trained animal behavorist who has been published in international journals.

I can not speak for anyone else, but myself I know what a track dog is.

John Horner, I have not had the privilage to hunt with Cornell but I have followed his career since he proved to be a winning competitor. I am considering breeding Gr.Ch.Nt.Ch. Super Daisy to him because there are several guys in our area that would like a pup out of him. But, That would not be the deciding factor in my decision. Can you tell me his tracking style, speed, and accuracy? Are there any pups out of him hat are showing good tracking ability? Obviously he can track coon and must be pretty quick at it to win as he has. Then again, he could be the kind that got gone quick, found a hot one by himself and treed it before anything else figured out what happened. Would you care to desribe him for me? Thanks,Lowell
