i just take mine to the woods and they do the rest. they can't learn to hunt in the yard or in the pen.

i tried dragging a dead coon around she showed no interest in in im goin to try a live caged coon next.

try and get an older dog that will bark at a caged coon 2 go with it. i have had a couple of pups that wouldn't bark at one alone, but when they saw the older dog going hysterical they joined right in. then i petted up my pup and they didn't take long to get the picture. if that doesn't work try turning one out and let them see it run off. give the coon a little head start then cut your pup loose. i'm curious how old is the dog you are trying to get going?

if she is a young dog don't over do it with the cage coon and burn her out on them. just make sure you give her time to mature and don't try and push her before she is ready.

Invest in Vicki Lamb's book ... notice I didn't say buy it. It has valuable information that is much more like an investment.

All pups are not the same. Some do well with old dogs and learn by following them. Others learn on there own. I have a pup that showed no interest in caged coons or even drags around old dog's. I was ready to give her a bullet. And I turned a live coon out to her and she went and treed it on her own. and from that day on she has been treeing and running tracks on her own. The biggest thing don't push the pup into being a coon dog let them go at there own pace. Don't get discouraged when you hear people with pups at 5 and 6 months old treeing coon on there own these pups are very rare. There is some great books out there on coon hound training (Walk with Wick) well worth the money.

try a caged coon, hopfuly the pup gets close enuf to get bit, once it gets bit, you will know! Then hunt with an older dog, And have a truck load of patience! If the dog shows no interest get another one, there is a lot of pups out there, no need to beat your head on the wall!
