No relationship at all. Smokey II is double Dalton bred, and at that time there were no Hammer dogs in this part of the country.
Old Smoke crossed well on Hammer blood though, I crossed a Blue Run Gentleman @ Dalton bred gyp, thats how I got my Dual Grand male dog.

I have two young dogs that are out of a double bred Smjokey II gyp, and a dog that is Smokey River on top side @ Smokey II on the bottom. They are doing a pretty good job, I would like for acompetion hunter to get them.

Blueticker

I am looking more for a coondog not a competition dog. I suppose they are as one it just depends on how you train them. I have heard a lot about that line of dogs from just a small group of people through what they have won especially the Blue River kennel that did all that winning for a while with the Smokey II. bred hounds. I am really amazed that these dogs aren't more popular in the nite hunts than what there are. It seems even though the Hammer hounds aren't pushed in the nite hunts their off spring have a lot to do with the winning bluetick line of today. A lot of kennels were started with the Hammer blood.

I guess the main reason no more of the Dalton dogs are out there is that Mr. Daltin never got out to the big hunts, he was content to hit thr local hunts here in Southwest Va. @ Northwest N.C. He did go a few times to W.Va. Va. @ N.C. state hunts a few times, @ Autumn Oaks when it was in Winston Salem, N. C.
Nobody outsids this area had heard of his dogs until Jimmy Myers bought Smokey II @ started hunting him.
Mr.Dalton was in a serious car wreck several years ago which has left him unable to hunt. He has to depend on someone else to hunt his dogs for him. He goes and sits on the tailgate and listens while I go to the dogs when they tree. I allways take some of his dogs as well as mine. This works very well.
