Rules Question ?

The rules state you have one minute to strike your dog at each turnout. Another rule says if a dog is babbling ( no track is evident) to warn the handler once and then on the 2nd offense to scratch the dog. A friend of mine says that during the 1 minute, the handler should be warned his dog is babbling. I say that the 1 minute rule protects the dog from this call. Could someone tell me how UKC would rule? Can a dog be called for babbling during the 1st minute?

The rules allow a dog to babble for the first minute. I know of no warnings for anything in UKC.
You are incorrect about any babbling rule stating you warn, then scratch. There is no such rule. If the judge believes a dog is struck babbling, the judge must minus the dog. You cannot scratch a dog for babbling in UKC.

The one minute rule and the babbling rule are two completely separate rules. If a dog is struck babbling before or after the minute, that dog is minussed strike points. No warnings allowed in the rules. 4(j) simply allows the dog to bark without being struck for the first minute if the handler doesn't want to strike the dog. However if the handler DOES strike in that first minute and the judge determines the dog is babbling, he must minus the dog.

Could I not question it and bring it up for a cast vote?

Sure you can . You can question any decision a hunting judge makes and ask for it to be voted on.

JIM

You say that there is no warnings in ukc. i thought that if a dog was silent on track one time he would warned the first time and a note made of it and the second time he would be scratched. This doesn't have anything to do with this post but I thought that a warning was given to a silent dog and you said no warnings in ukc. I could very well be wrong just wanted some clarification.

Rule 6(i) under"Dogs will be scratched": "If dog is continuosly silent on trail."

There is no mention of any warnings.

I didn't say there are no warnings, I said I don't know of any. I could have missed one somewhere but you would need to quote me the rule or atleast the rule number to convince me otherwise.

I dont know of any "warning" situations either.

Its one of those made up things that sounds plausable so it just keeps getting passed along....Just like the canopy of the tree.

No, 6(e) is not a warning and here is why I say that.
4(i) states that the dog is minused strike points for the 1st offense of failure to strike on or before the 3rd bark. So that first offense cannot be considered a warning since the rules state the dog is minused. And if it happens a second time, then your rule 6(e) takes over and scratches the dog.

Dog can babble for first minute, unless already struck in, then must open every 8 min.
