I believe the handler is more important in competition

I think the handler is because if they put a dog in a competition hunt i'd hope the dog would be ready for it. If it is ready, the hunt is now up to the handler. A good dog will look good, but a good handler is what nowadays determines if the dog wins. I'm not saying tricky handlers are impressive, but one who learns, understands, and follows to a T all the rules will make him/herself look good.
