Ivomec Question

Folks I read all I could about worming with Ivomec on a couple message boards and headed off to the Farm store to buy some tonight. They have the 1% solution, I have syringes, and know the safe dose, 1/10 cc per 10 lbs. I plan to give it orally once per month I realize it kills heart, hook, round, and whip worms. I know enough to stay away from the Ivomec Plus.

Well I got to the store and the liquid they have is called Pour On Ivomec for beef. The man working there said this was the stuff, they pour it on the coat to kill lice and mites nd it soaks into the system an dkills internal parasites. I asked if there was an oral solution he said just the horse paste wormer, and assumed the Pour On Ivomec 1% solution was the same stuff I am looking for. They also have the injectable but only in large containers (250ml). The cost was $39.00 for 50 ml. He said the injectible was the same as the pour on.

Can anybody help me on this , is there an oral grade, or is the pour on OK to give orally, any help appreciated!

i have never used the pour on kind , I use the injectable kind and Im not sure if the pour on kind would be safe to give orally , I would stray away from giving yer dogs a pour on medicene orally , if nothing else order it online and it will be shipped to you ina day or 2 and you will have the right tool for the job, just My .02 cents worth

Doug R.

what most are using in the manners you have described is the injectable 1% solution for cattle. Even though it is dispensed as injectable it is being given orally in the way you described.
the cost you mentioned was about right for the 50ml bottle so I think you just need to shop until you find it.
250 ml would be enough for eternity!!/LOL
I have never used the topical rub or given it orally and wouldn't want to speculate as to wether it could be used or not.
Good luck and BE CAREFUL

Doug I also use the injectable, and one more thing 1/10 cc per 10 pounds is not going to hurt your dogs but 1/10 cc per 20 pounds is all you need. I have used it for years that way, and never had a dog get heart worms or round, hook, whip worms. Your dogs also will never have ear mits if you are useing Ivomec. My wifes cat had ear mits very bad one time and my vet told me to give him a 1/2 cc then in a week give him another 1/2 and in no time he was all better so now I give him about 1/10 cc every 2 months.

Thomas Labs has it for $33.60(back cover of Aug. bloodlies). Jeffers (pet online store) is a little cheaper( $31 I think). I use Double impact (generic brand of ivomec- same stuff a little cheaper). I dilute mine 50/50 w/ sterile water and then give 1/10 cc per 10 #'s (Would be 1/20 cc ivomec- same as the fellow said earlier)

Ivomec Plus is for liver flukes also.

I have heard confliting stories about using the plus some say no and other say it's okay. I did give plus to one of my dogs onetime, picked up the wrong bottle from the cabinet, it didn't seem to hurt him any. This year I just started buying the paste ivomec for horses and give them a dose for 50 lbs, which it just one turn on the plunger. So far seems to have worked just like when I gave the injectable orally.
