hunt all year long?

My best friend and i were talking, and we came across a question that neither of us had an answer for, so we were wondering if anyone else could answer it for us.

Are you alowed to hunt your dogs all year round as long as you dont shoot the coon out of season?

I mean you can go sit in your tree stand or blind all year long if you want you just cant shoot the deer, unless its in season.

If anyone can let us know it would be great.

Good hunt'n to y'all

Linsey, and Heather

Every different region of every different state has different rules. In most of South Carolina, you can run dogs all year long, but kill season is Oct. 15- Mar 1. You'll have to check with your DNR to see about your area.

I may be wrong, but your state may have a quiet season in some parts of the state where you can not run the hounds -- April 15 until July 15. You can check Michigan's DNR website for rules and laws.

Yep here in Texas Year Round, Coon Hunting.

As for Deer, you can observe deer year round out of your blind, but you can only shoot a deer during the Harvest Season.
We have no Kill Season on Coon, and you can shoot one out to your hounds, any time you want.

The only stipulation is that you cant hunt furbearing, or preditor animals with a dog, on Public Hunting land, during day light hours during an open deer season. But at nite you can.
You can however hunt Squirrel, Rabbit, or any game bird with a dog at that time.

Buckshot is right........
You can not run in Michigan from April 16th to July 15th.
Unless you are in a comp. hunt under permit.
You can , however , get a piece of property designated as a year long training area. The permit is free. And you must post signs.
Very easy to do.

in Ohio you can train all year but you can't hunt on public hunting land from May 1st till sep. 1st unless its set aside as a dog training area. and you can't carry a fire arm while training coon hounds in the off season.

I should also mention, in NH the kill season is Oct 1 to March 31. Run all year, but you can only shoot them during the designated kill season. I havent shot a coon in 2 years. This year I'll pop one for my pup though.

I actually wrote a paper and submitted to our DNR this fall regarding running hounds year-round in Michigan. I researched all the states from the east coast to Montana. All the states except for 6 at a minimum allow running dogs on private property year-round. Michigan is one of those six. The other five are on the east coast. We are not allowed to run any kind of dog except fox hounds on state land under permit during April 15th-July 15th.

Hunt all year in Mississippi....Only kill during season. There is a permit needed to hunt during spring Turkey season and it has to be on a sustained 250 acres that you have written permission to be hunting on. You can hunt open public lands only during kill season; unless you are on a comp cast and the you must show a valid score card and the hosting club has to have a permit so you can hunt public lands then.
