Hunt the dog with a Tri Tronics collar on when/if he trees one take him off the tree DO NOT DO ANYTHING, DONT SAY ANYTHING, AND DO NOT SHOCK HIM (YET)! Have a buddy along with you ,lead the dog off a good ways, then you or your buddy go back and shake the sliky out, turn the dog back to where said sliky is and when the dog gets a mouthful (LIGHT HIS FIRE) if he trys to get it agin shock him till you cant drag him over to the possum. REMEMBER IT DONT HAVE TO BE DONE ALL IN ONE NITE!
That how i do it when i have to, Hope this helps. Will send BILL for training advice later(LOL) Good Luck.

box trap possum leave sitting in woods, take your dog and turn it loose close to the trap. as soon as you see the hound get a smell of the possum fry him with a shock collar. ive heard of people zip tying a dead possum to the dogs collar for a couple days too.

throw one in the dog box with him and shock him about every five miles. i broke a dog once by leaving the tree and shocking the dog when i got back to the truck. that why the dog didn't relate the shock with me being there.

i dont believe in shooting anything out to the dog you dont want them to have.my cur dog treed two in three years i went in leash her up and take her away from it.dont show the dog any emotion they will get the picture quick enough.alot of guys are quick to beat a dog how would they like it if they got beat everytime they screwed up there would be alot of people walking around beat up.jmo .

I've tried, seen, and/or heard of most methods. What has worked best for me on most dogs is just to fuss at them when they tree a possom. No physical abuse, just fussing. If a dog is real bad on them I break them off the track! I've seen dogs that could not be stopped from treeing them until they were stopped from RUNNING them, then they quit treeing them.

MY experience is knocking them out NEVER stopped them no matter what you did to the dog.

The fussing can be done on a nite hunt because it not loud or abusive, just disappointment and disapproval in your voice directed directly in the dogs face.

I've taken dogs and when I see a possum cross the road wait awhile and turn em out right where the possum was and when they open or catch it shock em or whale on em right good..
