Whelping Box Rail

How high do you make it from the base of the box?? Also how wide should it be? 3" or so is my guess but if anyone can give me any information I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Depends on what you are using but 3 " is plenty. Just enough to keep moma off them.

Briar

I made some about 3.5 in high and 4 in wide, I have seen where some guys have used 3 in pvc and that looked like it would work real well.

i lent my box to my friend for his litter a couple weeks ago, i think they are 2 weeks tomorrow, and i forgot all about the rails as it was a new box, so we just slapped on 2x2"s around the box and just made them fist high lol cant you tell we are carpenters?

I put my rail about 3 inches from the floor and 3 inches extended toward the center of the box. For a 4' x 38" box it it cost about $8.00 in 1/2" pvc and fittings.

I am a little stupid to the welping box thing, but how does the rail keep the dam off the pups

I turned a 2x4 on its side and used that as the measurement... so I guess mine was 4 inches and that worked fine.
