cell phone use during nite hunt question?

last night after a nite hunt i had an interesting thought. if it is a barrable offense to use a cell phone regarding scores in a nite hunt, shouldnt it also be against the rules to broadcast the score via the internet. the hunt i was at last night had a two oclock deadline. i was home in front of my computer by 1:00. if i had posted a score on the internet wouldnt that be as bad as calling someone? many folks now have internet access on there phones and blackberries. anyhow the thread got deleted.
what do you guys think? should the rule be changed to say "use of any electronic device to broadcast scores during a nite hunt is a barrable offense"? that would cover c.b.s also.
also anybody know what happened to the other thread?

i have never seen it enforced. people could obviously sneak away from everyone to use phone, but it is definitely a sensible rule. areas around here where everyone bear hunts, they all have cb radios. a few years ago it was causing a stir cause two friends, both guiding, one mentioned a score and that he did not win his cast. the other guys cast nabbed a coon when they only had a few minutes left on the card. made some people wonder. seems like the mohs started asking folks to stay off the cb with scores.

i think it should be widend to include CB's and internet but it would be hard id think to enforce the rule when it comes to internet

I finally agree with Truly on something.... LOL

I would like to modify the rule to say "any discussion of scores outside your cast before the deadline of the hunt is a barrable offense, any handler found to be in violation of this rule will be barred, a spectator that is found to be in violation will be barred along with the handler that they accompany. Handlers are responsible for their spectators. This rule is to include, but not be limited to, phones, internet, radios or person to person talking."

What difference would it make if you posted the scores on the internet? How would the cast that is still out know what you posted?

As for making a rule about not discussing your casts scores until all casts are in........ IMO that is ridiculous. What is the harm in discussing how your cast went with others back at the club house? How could that info be relayed to any casts still out without violating rules already in place? Maybe the rule could say any cast still out is prohibited from discussing any scores of any cast with anyone not on the cast they are in until they return to the club house. Offending members will be barred.

If I have the high score I'll likely wait around to see if the casts coming in beat me. I'd hate to sit around a few hours and find out the guy sitting in the club with me had already beat me. Getting barred for telling you casts score to a buddy that has nothing to do with a cast still out hunting seems rather harsh.

it could make you sit an wait for the other cast to come in til 2 oclock ,but if they find out from a friend there you already have the highest score, everybody might just go home an not even ride to clubhouse then you have wasted hours sitting around ,this is not good if you have rode a long way

i don`t have a problem at all with that, but have you ever been to a hunt an your outside talking to someone at the club an a truck pulls up an most of the time you will find out everything that happened including the score before the moh knows what is going on ,anyway there are alot of rules i don`t like either when you bring someone new in that never been to 1 an they don`t know whats going members of the cast act like they want to throw the book at them an that ain`t right either i carried my fatherinlaw to 1 he said he would never go again sometime winning isn`t everything an we should all remeber this

demodog- i dont know how you could have percieved this question as whining, complaining or having anything to do with any particular club. this is a thought that i have had at many clubs as the MOH reads out the part about cell phone use and barring. cornbelt- many folks have blackberries and laptops that can be used in the field. i have always felt that the genlteman's rule of not discussing scores publicly was wise, but sharing quietly with a few doesnt seem wrong. just the idea of publicly broadcasting by any electronic device could cause trouble. smoke signals too!

dale- we have opened the door to some diplomacy?

a guy told me a story years ago about how every time he came in with a cast win and a good score right before deadline another cast would come in with a better score.this happened in three states away from me so i dont know anyone involved, but he was sure that they were calling his score out to the cast remaining to let them knowwhat they needed to win. so the next time he won a cast he came in and sat quietly with the card in his pocket till five before deadline. when he turned it in they pitched a fit about him waiting so long, but the other cast came in just a moment later, but hadnt had time to adjust their card is what he thought- anyhow whether the guy was paranoid, or the problem was real, it does seem like a solid direction to go limiting broadcasting of scores.

btw-demodog- their was none of this at the hunt that i was at. this is just a question i thought of because i was home in front of the computer before that hunts deadline.

I was in the last cast, I won it with 300+. I was not back to the clubhouse @ 1am, with a 2am deadline.
If people knew my score before I'd like to know how.

There are way more hunts won by "PENCIL WHIPPING" than we know of Im sure. I dont think they should let anyone know what the scores are until the hunt deadline. If someone needs a 1st place to make a dog Nt Ch and had 200+ and knew another dog was already back at club with 250+, its extremely possible to juice his score up to 300 to insure that win! Its happened alot over the years.

I know that there are some who will falsify a score to win, just really not that many.

If ALL the cast are in then you do not have to wait for the deadline before doing the paper work. We had a 2:30 deadline this morning and I had the paper work done and trophies presented by 1:45. I AIN"T waiting for 2:30 when all cast are in like some of you are stating. In your favor I really don't think that is what you meant but it is what some are saying.

NOBODY KNEW YOUR SCORE. MY QUESTION WAS HYPOTHETICAL. BROGY, I KNOW YOU KNOW WHAT HYPOTHETICAL MEANS. FOR THOSE WHO DONT PLEASE LOOK IT UP. THIS QUESTION HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED AT THIS HUNT. CONGRATULATIONS ON WINNING YOUR CAST. I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE OTHER CAST WINNERS SCORE WAS. THIS POST IS/WAS MEANT TO BE A POST ABOUT THE "POSSIBILITY OF", NOT THE "REALITY OF" OR "ACCUSATION OF" ANY IMPROPRIETY CAUSED BY USING SOMETHING OTHER THAN A CELL PHONE TO TALK SCORES. IF IT IS A BARRABLE OFFENSE TO USE A CELL PHONE TO TALK SCORES, WHAT IF ONE GUY USES A LANDLINE TO CALL A GUY ON HIS CELL PHONE? WOULD YOU BAR THE GUY WITH THE CELL AND NOT THE OTHER GUY? WHAT IF A GUYS USED CBs TO TALK TO EACH OTHER? WHAT IF THEY USED SMOKE SIGNALS? WHAT IF THEY RAN INTO THE OTHER CAST ON THE ROAD ON THE WAY BACK AND SOMEONE SHARED SCORE INFO?
************NO ACCUSATIONS HERE!!!!************
***********ALL HYPOTHETICAL QUESTIONS***********

my point being- should UKCs rule be broadened to include transmitting scores by any electronic device?

Yes.... Although Cell phones would cover 99.99999% of electronic devices used in the field by casts still hunting.

IMO if someone is unethical enough to falsify a scorecard........ do we really think they will obey the cell phone rule? The problem with cheaters usually isn't in the rules...... it's in the lack of enforcement of them. If a cheater is breaking 1 or 2 rules, breaking 1 or 2 more likely isn't going to deter them. Remember these are supposed to be "HONOR" rules. They aren't going to work to good with dishonorable people.

I just don't want to see it come to where someone innocently discusses their cast or their casts score with a buddy at the club and they become barred. Then you start punishing people who have nothing to do with the problem.

i agree. in my situation someone pm.ed me asking how my hunt went, what kinda score our cast had, etc. while the person that pm.ed me doesnt even know anyone at this club, i responded that i was going to wait til after deadline to respond, as i would interpret the intent of that rule to mean not broadcasting scores outside of the clubhouse. talking inside the clubhouse seems totally ok, but just to be safe i always keep scores under wraps til all casts are in.
and yes "its the lack of enforcement" really applies to this rule. how could they ever enforce it?
