What do you know...

About a dog that will get up on a tree to get a better "wind" of a coon in a nearby tree when there is some wind moving?

What were your experiences working with a dog that did this?

Thanks,
JC

havent dealt with that per say... I have a male dog that will sit on a hill (nearby say 10 yards) and howl his head off and run to the tree and tree but then he wants to sit in the good windin spot.. and howl until I get there...then its back n forth tillI chain him to the tree or turn him loose for the shoot-out..

Awesome hide huntin dog...silent track..unless smokin hot.NEVER SLICK>>NEVER SLICK and loves to split...that can be a hassle silent on track..but makes ya happy cuz I know what jsut ..WHERE!!

What do you know ...

Absolutely nothing!

J/K I have seen that before. The dog just wants to get where it smells the strongest scent. I have seen dog that operate fine with that habit, and I have seen the extreme. They only will tree when they wind body scent. If you have the last case let me know if you fix it, I still haven't found a way.

thanks guys... you have pretty much explained what I am dealing with here... dog seems to have a good nose to be able to wind like that, but he's having trouble zeroing in on it??? almost like he'd rather tree from winding rather than find it and get locked on the wood?

anyone else ever deal with this?

I have a dog who will do just so when there is a breeze in the air. One night in a hunt she got treed by herself twice and when we got to her she was hopping around in circles on her back legs just winding but was a tree over from both coon and had to be minsed. I have been told really good dogs will do this and will be sitting directly under the coon in the tree when they do.
