A few nights ago I was hunting one of my young black & tan females, and she got in some cut over and the coyotes were everwhere, they run her down and killed her! Just wondering if any of you guys have ever had this happen to one of your hounds? She was just 14 months old, I like to hunt a dog by their self, but after this I dont know if I should!

I had them surround a dog i hd one time , we got lucky and were hunting off a Polaris Ranger and were able to get across the cut down before they got to her.

I was hunting a female and a young pup the first week of kill season last year. The dogs got a good track going and got it treed when a pack of coyotes came in and jumped them on the tree. We were able to get to them in a matter of a few minutes and run the coyotes off. The dogs were not hurt to bad but it sure put a scare in me.

Had close encounters with yotes but got lucky and never had a dog hurt yet. I've heard of guys running hounds with airdales, the airdales are there to keep the yotes at bay so the hounds can do their job.

Ted....sorry to hear that....two nights ago me and a buddy went,first dump the dogs got treed,on the way in we heard coyotes trying to chase em off the tree.We stepped up the pace and made some noise.I was glad we had three dogs on the tree.

had friend say just other day his young male got tore up by them.did any of you people have lighted collars on your dogs just wondering i have been runing them for that reason hope it works use to be bigest probem in woods i hunt was coon but now bear,coyote,cats ted sorry for your loss my english an a walker of my friends got atacked last year thats why i got lighted collar hope it keeps working so far so good

Like alot of these people I had and have alot of brushes with these yotes as I have posted before. Just run a lighted coller and or a bell. And I don't hunt just 1 dog anymore. I had them catch one of my hounds once and I got to her in time to save her life. But she was never much of a cooner since. It took something out of her. I sure hate to hear about your dog. Things do happen but it still hurts. I wish you luck and hopefully it won't happen again. They still bother us some but the lighted collers do seem to help.

hey guys put a lighted collar o your hounds the yotes will come in but have a fear of the lighted collars they chewed up one of my females when not wearig a collar but have no problems with them coming to a hound wearing a collar

im sorry to hear about your dog... ive had friends that run deer dogs on our wma that have lost smaller hounds and beagles to coyotes, espically when theres only one or two that cant be caught at the end of the day... sometime you can go out there at nite and holler and hear 4 or 5 different packs start up all different directions... someone needs to hunt em out there... ive had coyotes come in on my dogs but luckily never had anything happen to them. i had a big pack come in on max one nite when i was hunting him in TX, he trailed down by a feild and i heard em go down to where id heard him and shortly he came back- but missing pieces or no hair outa place (thank God). i would try a lighted collar to scare em off... and maybe hunt more than one dog in an area where you know coyotes are more prone to prowl...

Has been a passion of mine. Nothing more satisfying than comin up to one in a trap & seein that look that say's"YA GOT ME"! Alway's wanted to be a government trapper.

We have more than our share here as well. I was huntin my 9 month lil redbone female alone the other night & she cold trailed rite to where they was a screamin & carryin on & never batted an eye about them. I do use the tracker flash lite's on my hounds but just started to use them recently.

There are a bunch of people that want me to trap them but the problem is their not worth a heck of a lot around here & no one would be willing to pay so with gas the way it is it don't pay to run around doing it out of kindness ya know.

I catch a few here at the home farm every year but there is alway's plenty to take their place. Nothing I'd like better than to have 50 set's out for them everyday & the best part is I set mine way out in the open country away from the timber on travel route's & the like's & have only caught one dog in the past 10 year's & it was a mutt that was way to far from home but none the less I took him back to the owner's. Had a limp for a couple day's but he was fine.

i hunt a dog alone alot and yotes come in on a single dog alot i always have a gun and it has worked so far to scare them off.

We run the dogs on the yotes up here every day all winter long, 63 last winter ahead of the dogs. Biggest one was almost 70 lbs. What is happening to you guys who are having yote problems on your dogs is that you are in an area where a litter was raised and they are coming to your dog as it is in there territory. You need to run them with them dogs to put the fear of the lord in them. The one guy that hunts with us runs BT Beagles and they chew the snoot out of them yotes if they turn on them. One dog is no match to a pack of yotes, but you break them up and they are chicken s**ts.

Thanks for all the input ! I think I'll try the lighted collar, I still like hunting a hound by theirself, that the only way I can tell what I've got in a coondog. Maybe I can just stay a little closer to them, in case the coyotes show up! Thanks again.
