Wow, I didn't know how widespread these beliefs were. I guess its everywhere, I usually just thought it was a bunch of crazy locals. It took me a few years of hunting to finally stand up for my own beliefs and call these out as a load of crap. Of course as a kid I didn't feel comfortable to tell an older guy he was wrong, but hey sometimes you just have to listen and smile. They don't mean any harm.
WHAT YA'LL THINK ABOUT THESE
"Full moon the coon don't like to be out becuase they feel like they can be seen easier thus, Dark night, hunting is better"
"Sow took her kits on a run to lose them from the dogs in the field, to spread them out so the hounds would chase the sow instead of the kits."
"The small ones jump from tree to tree, sometimes for a quarter mile."
With my old dog I do generally get a strike faster on a dark night as opposed to a full moon night. But i still tree coon either way.
I have actually been told that a sow would put her kittens up a tree and then move on and if the dog didn't come on and chase her and he pulled up and treed where the kittens were that the sow would come back and actually tease the dog and try to get the dog to chase her.
I haven't ever heard that last one.
