What is the best brand of GPS

I'm getting ready to buy a GPS. I have used them a lot doing biological studies with wildlife. However, pretty much the only brand I have had any experience with at all is Garmin. They work pretty good, but I just wondered if anyone out there has found anything that they think is alot better, or better for the money, or something like that.

I definitely want to get something that I can download maps onto.

I use the Etrex by Garmin. Fair for the price but would'nt chance my life on it. I recently got a digital compass, a Nomad by Brunton, that will basically do the same thing as the Etrex. Has a 'backtrack' on it that will point the way back you came from. 3 buttons and simple to use. No siginals to loose, works in heavy cover, light weight and easy to keep up with.

If I had feelings, that might would have hurt.

Ryan, I use the Lowrance Global map 100. While not the lastest thing out it works extremely well. I do have the cd and have loaded detailed maps for the eastern portions of NC, SC, and VA. It even shows blue line ditches. Have had it for about three years. Most units work in the woods today, but that was not so with earlier versions that I have owned. Good luck and I expect to meet you at Autumn Oaks. Frank

Thanks for the info everyone.

I sure hope I do get to meet you out there Frank. It is starting to look like work may tie me up here in Southeast Missouri over that weekend.

ryan ,the rino 110 i have ,i set the tracker in ohio and it tracked me all the way to chicago, ill and told me how long it took me to get there and average speed and idle time.if you read the book that comes with it ,it don't take long to fingure how to work it.if i can use it anyone can.it uses 3 AA batterys which it says last for 13 hrs.non stop.but will last longer if you turn off the walkie talkie when not useing it.
