? for Todd or Tank

We had a situation at our hunt this week-end that I would like your opinion on how it should be handled.
A cast went out which included an experienced hunter, a young man (new hunter) and a woman, also new to UKC hunting. For whatever reason, the guide and judge (the older man) drove off and left the woman, and then proceeded to tear the scorecard in two, give half to the young man, and go home. He did not return to the club. You can see how this makes our club look, although he is not a member of our club, just got picked to guide and judge.
My question is, how should this have been handled by the MOH? And no, I'm not sure if either cast member had plus points when the card was destroyed.

BOTH of the remaining cast members had plus points

I am very interested in the answer to this question. The female hunter was my wife. Her first UKC hunt, she finally got the courage to "go it alone", and look what it got her.

Close to an hour left to hunt, the young man had 200+, the wife had 175+, judge carrying 100-

Very interested in an answer.

Ok.

Sorry about the bad experience.

1st - Recreate the time, score etc on a seperate sheet of paper.

2nd - Go back to clubhouse, tell the MOH, recreate hunt on new scorecard

3rd - Get new guide/non-hunting judge as both seem to be new hunters

4th - write up the original judge/guide for handler misconduct page 32 of Official Rulebook

5th - Host club should at the bare minimum refuse to let this person judge or guide out of their club for awhile.

Thank you

Tank,

Thank you for your response!

Unfortunatly, the hunt was not recreated, the cast was ended as it began.

I am not sure that the MOH is going to do much of anything about the misconduct other than not let this "gentleman" judge again.

It is an unfortunate experience for all involved. My wife has already asked when the next hunt is going to be, so I don't think that it ran her off.

To all that read this, let me tell you this. She has told no less than 20 people about her bad experience, how many will they tell? Little wonder that our sport has a problem with credibility in some circles.

Good Luck Mrs Oak Ridge

What a crappy thing to do. I can't beleive that a man just evidently threw a fit and tore the card in two. He should have been written up and made responsible for his actions. Unfortunately, getting people to follow through with that can be tough.

I'm glad your wife hasn't given up on her first experience. There are more good than bad ones. Problem being, the bad ones leave a bad taste much longer than the memories of the good.

Good Luck in the future!

Sounds like a story I heard from Silver Lake. Did one of you draw my dog at Mill Creek Saturday night?

Tank, thanks for the reply. This was a really bad experience for all concerned.

Oak Ridge, I am a member at Silver Lake and I am glad to hear it didn't scare your wife off. Most of the hunters are decent people and had we known this gentleman was that type of poor sport, he would not have been allowed to judge. It will be discussed at the next meeting. At the least he will not be allowed to judge or guide again.

To anyone else reading this: Please be careful who you pick to guide & judge so this doesn't happen to any more new hunters. And FYI - this person was not from the Silver Lake area and is not a representative of our club. Please don't think we are all like this.

I too am a member of Silver Lake (a new member at that), and I have faith in the club to do the right thing.

I just want everyone to understand that judging and guiding is a very important part of our sport. As a judge or non-hunting guide, you take on the responsibility of representing the club and UKC.

As MOH it is important that this behavior is #1 not tolerated, #2 reported in the proper time frame.

It is my hope that the individual involved is reported for his lack of sportsmanship. I have nothing in it, it is really her battle to fight.

(oh trust me.....she can and will fight it)

Thanks.....
