8 hunted. It was just one night this year. One coon was scored. The dog that won never treed a coon and never scored a plus point. I don't know what the payout was this year.

This the imformation I was told. I wasn't there so my Imfo is all second hand.

I did hear that it was kind of a dissapointment ? Hard to beleive they could only muster up 8 hound's for it but I also heard there was a pretty good donation givin to the youth fund.

I wasn't there either obviously so that's just what I heard for what it's worth second hand from someone who was there.

My info came via Ohio, thru Dodgeville & rite into the holler here the next day after the hunt. From what I gathered it wasn't much of a hunt all things considered.

I know that there where 8 dogs total in the hunt. I know that a man for Louisiana won first.......I know that this is the last year for the hunt there will not be a Futurity next year. I do not know what the purse was, I was not there. I do not know of any large donation to the youth, but would like to know where that came from.......I do know we are working on a new pup hunt and hopefully it will start in 2009. Any Questions feel free to contact me. Alan Kalal

Yep, I would love to see them come up with a new and much better program. The Walker Futurity was my favorite hunt but it just never got going at all. I still think the support would be there for the right program.

The Association could start by giving consideration to the input provided by those few who have actully supported the program over the last 8 years, something that hasn't happened in the past.

JiM, Elvis and others, The Association appreciates greatly all the support you members have given this hunt. Yes, it never did take off and we don't know why, But, we will have a pup hunt and we will try to have it start in 2009. We would love to get imput from all of you on your ideas, send them to me because the Directors Meeting will be on November 1st and we will make thing finals at that meeting for the 2009 hunt.

Ideas:
Run on Thursday Night at Walker Days, But seperate from the Lee Crawford ???
Run on a one night hunt with a four dog run off ???
Run the hunt on a seperate weekend ???
We will make the hunt alot easier, not all the nominations fees and payment plans. We will listen to your suggestions, but if you don't send them to me I can not bring them up at the meeting. Thanks again to all you fine memebers that have supported the hunt, and I am very sorry this thing never took off. Alan Kalal

I feel one reason it didnt take off was the fact that ukc rules require a dog to win with plus points. I hunted in this hunt 7 out of the 8 yrs and only saw a handful of pups that even remotely resembled a dog being ready for a competition hunt. Even last year with an added purse of 10k and greatly diminished qualifying requirements,it didnt change the fact that very few pups are worthy of carrying to a hunt when it requires actually treeing coon.

Haveing said that, I have a hard time supporting a program that does not require plus points to win, but I also believe you must hold the hunt where there are coon to be treed.
Let us stay on the high road and demand that our pups win by treeing coons, and not just by hideing out or barking up leafy trees.

I do have a couple ideas I intend to pass along, but I in no way think I have the answers.

just a quick thought, but it occurs to me the hard part is not splitting it up to 2 hunts a yr, there is just so much of an age difference to be fair a 12 month old and a 20 month old are miles apart yet it was my understanding that in the past they would have hunted together. so perhaps if it is to remain a 1 weekend hunt it actually needs to be broken up into say 4 catergories, like 12-16 month 17-21 month 22-28 month and 29-36 month or something.

the problem i seen with the old format was trying to get a litter that would have some age on them at hunt date...seems they were always 12 1/2 mo. at oct and were 2 weeks to old to hunt the following yr. these pups never seen a coon season and have never been hauled more than 20 miles from home..

I think we are going to try and move the hunt into the springtime of year. Maybe run on Walker Days Weekend........But, I don't think we will not be hunting dogs of 36 months old, this is for pups 24 months and younger. But are looking for suggestions.

Two suggestions that I've heard from several people are:

1. There should be two divisions.
2. The age limit should be raised.

Does anyone like.......or not like the following?

Junior Division: Pups 6 months to 18 months old.

Senior Division: Pups 18 months to 30 months old.

Age deadline would be the day of the hunt. Open to any walker meeting the age requirements. No nominations.

this is probably the best you can do without haveing a spring and fall type hunt unless you add more divisions. and i think unfortunatly half of the people wouldnt bother entering account of there dog being to young. it would take a pretty special 6 or 18 month old hound for me to haul him/her accross the country to compete against 18 and 30 month old dogs and then if they are that special i'm not to sure i would want to risk setting him/her back hunting against those much older dogs
