Fleas galore!! Need help ASAP!!

I have 2 large pup pens and the ground is polluted with fleas. I tried some seven granular product but doesn't seem to be working. I need to get rid of them so I can turn loose some pups in them. Can anyone help me out. There are thousands of them!! Maybe millions!! I don't have a problem around the kennel, just in these 2 pens!! The pens are 100 ft x 125 ft!! Thanks in advance, Danny G.

Try hi yield should be able to get it at any feed store,I would think. mix it strong in a pump up sprayer may have to do it a few times to kill all the eggs that are there.Thankfully I have never had that problem knock on wood.A friend of mine had them terrible thats what he did,Also heard you could you diesel fuel,do not know if I would try it but that's what I heard any way Hope that helps.

Danny you can get some Permethrin - 10 concentrate and mix up and spray down.

It's also safe to use on dogs (check the label for pup's age)

You can buy it at most feed stores as it is also used on livestock and livestock pens.

The permethins work

great for area, but then I would spray the dogs with Frontline. Great stuff! We have sand and I haven't seen a flea in a year and a half. Also safe for nursing females, good against ticks as well. I buy the big bottles from the vet or off ebay and it lasts me a long time. I don't mess with the little applicators.

Ill second this!

Danny if you get some on dogs and want to kill fleas that are living right away they make a pill called capstar. Not a preventitive but kills living fleas right now.

Then of course frontline plus is what I use year around.

I have all the pups and hounds flea free!! I need to kill the fleas in the big pup runs that are in the ground before I can turn these pups loose in there!. Its the big pen that is away from the kennel that is around the garage! I have had hounds for a long time and this is the darnest thing I have ever seen with fleas!! If they where worth a penny a piece I would be rich!! Millions of them!! LOL

Danny, the label list the mixture for what animal you are using - Horses, Dogs, and etc...

I can't remember the exact mix off hand, but the label will come attached to the bottle or you can google the MSDS label for it.

I did pest control for 10 years and if I was gonna buy some non prescription insecticide to treat pens and yards for fleas, that is what I would buy (LOL - which is what I use).

Danny,

I keep the grass cut and I spraySpectracide Triazicide on the ground. It is about $10 and mixes to make 128 gallons.

you need to wet the grass a couple hours before you spray the posion. I have an electric sprayer that pulls behind the lawnmower and I just drive and let it spray the area.
it take 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch, so spray again then. I spray any nearby bushes too.

This should last the rest of the summer for you.

We had a problem like that last year. Just this one patch of grass was infested! We had some clear bug spray that we get from Wally World (it was called Bug Stop maybe?) and I sprayed it all over the area and more and it wiped'm out and they haven't been back.
Hope you get'm under control.

Clean the pens thoroughly and remove old dirt, litter, etc. Spread salt liberally all over the ground and then put down cedar shavings on top of that. Repeat every 2-3 weeks as a fleas egg cycle is roughly 30 days.

The fleas cannot tolerate living in the salt and will leave the ground it is around as it soaks into the ground.

I do this and have not had a single flea on my dogs while they are in their kennels.

PUT THE BAYER TREE AND SHRUB ON YOUR PUPS OR DOGS AND TURN THEM LOOSE....

BUT FIRST GET YOU SOME MALATHION AND MIX IT WITH A LITTLE BOTTLE OF IG REGULATOR AND IT WILL KILL THE FLEAS AND EGGS.... WORKS GREAT.

Tempo
Don't spray it on dogs... just premises. Most people use it in chicken houses between growouts. If it can be killed, Tempo will kill it.

we spray with malathion mixed with a bottle of ig regulator the regulator kills the eggs, but we put advanced bayer tree and shrub on our dogs we open the bottle fill the cap and rub it all over the dogs bellies, the we take a bit more and run a little line down there back and rub it in and it has worked wonders, when "nothing else was working" not even straight peremethrin, and permecterin.....

Burnt oil, sulfur, and diesel fuel. Mix it up and spray it. Good luck.

cedar chips

cedar chips have an oil in them most have this oil removed as they use it as insect deterent, however if you use cedar chipswithout the oil removed it may cause a dogs skin to blister and it will kill very young pups it iritates the nostril and inside the mouth and will kill them.
i highly reccomend mixing 1/3 cedar with 2/3 pine to be safe
yes i have heard over and over i have been using them for years with no problem but once you get a batch without the oil removed you will be sorry.
most vets will verify what i am saying i worked for a vet that did a large canine clientel and have seen what cedar chips can do

fleas

Danny do like Buckshot says. That's what I use and my pen is about 580 ft. Pyrethens 10% has about a 30 day residual.

IMPORTANT

If you use malathion - make sure, after spraying that the pen is DRY before putting dogs back in it.. After you use a spray, THEN use Bayer T&S & you'll NEVER see another flea. Cedar chips are not a good product to us - especially for pups. Not only will they burn the hide, they can irritate the nasal passages & eyes.

Danny,
What has worked for me is gasoline. I fill up my miracle grow dispenser that hooks up to the hose to dillute the gasoline. Spray the kennel, dog houses, etc, just like you would be spraying the miracle grow on your garden. This will kill all of your fleas and burn up all of their eggs. I have used this method for several years and have had great results. I know it sounds odd and may not be "going green" but it works. Also since it's dilluted it won't hurt your dogs.

Justin
