Safegard??

I usually worm my dogs with panacur but not many places carry it the main reason I like it is because it kills the majority of worms and for a decent price. And that its safe to use on pups. Not many stores carry it most carry safegaurd. My question is safeguard basically the same as panacur and is it safe? And how do you figure doses?

I use Safeguard liquid Goat wormer & just double the dose listed on the back for goats. That is what my vet told me to do. So if you have a 10 dog it should receive about 3 1/2 cc's of wormer. 3 days in a row & yes, it can be used what Ivermectin also at the same time.

okay, so one guy is giving a 1/4 inch on his finger another is giving enough for a 250 pound horse, of the horse wormer?

and a 10 pound dog is getting more goat wormer than someone else is giving a 50 pound dog?

you people are all over the board.

I posted the link on the CORRECT way to dose the dog....

FACTS:

Recommended dosage for Horses is 2.3 MG per Kilogram

Recommended dosage for dogs is 22.7 (round up to 23)mg Per Kilogram per day for 3days.

The dosage for dogs is 10 times the dosage for horses.....

If you MUST use the horse wormer in the tube, the easiest way to know the correct dose is to add a whole tube of wormer (a 25 GRAM tube which contains 2500 MG of FBZ)

Take a container and put in 50 CC of water. Empty the ENTIRE tube of wormer into the water and shake well...until you have a suspension.

Draw off of there 1/2 cc per pound of dog...if you have a 50 pound dog...25 CC.....

REPEAT THIS FOR THREE DAYS. YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE TUBE PER DOG TO GET THE RIGHT DOSAGE FOR A THREE DAY TREATMENT!!!!

http://www.lambertvetsupply.com/Saf...-pr--0160071000

Lambert Vet Supply sells 1000 CC bottles of Safeguard 10% solution for 105.00......

If you buy this, and give the dog 1cc for every 5 pounds (10 CC for a 50 pound dog), that comes out to about .96 cents a day to worm your dog....

You can buy this, it last you a LONG, LONG time....worm your dog for less than $3.00 a month and get the RIGHT dosage....

This would be "close"

There is 100 mg per ml or cc....

You would be giving the dog 230 mg per day of the medication for every 10 pounds. If you have a 50 pound dog, you would be giving 1150 MG, wich is well within the recommended dosage.

Problem is the goat wormer that I buy is 20.00 a bottle, for 100 CC..

That is DOUBLE the price that I buy the 1000 cc bottle for!

try going to ebay and look at miridonas, a vet in greece, he sells a replication of safeguard in tablet form for both dogs and horses...also has a wormer that will do all parasites, has to be administered once and not 3 days in a row... good pricing and very informed-helpful- worth taking a look...

Travis,

I weigh the pups and dose them each according to weight. I give them the same dose per 5 pounds..if they weigh 2 1/2 pounds....I give them 1.1 cc..... ect.

I don't worm the 2 or 4 week old puppies three days in a row....I will however worm them three days in a row when they are six weeks old...
