Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a dog to launch?

What about how to get them to launch when there is a concrete block set up?

Either throw or kick em off in the water. The'll figure it out eventually. It worked great for me.

We had a dock at the lake where we held races. I would lower the dogs along side of the dock and steer them with the lease. Once they learned to swim well the rest came easy.

I have to disagree with red rebel beacuse the first two times(last summer) I put my dog in a water race he wouldn't come off the box and i threw him in and made him swim. Ever since then he has been winning making WCH and has 2 win toward GRWCH. We normally swim around 10-14 dogs at every event and when they dont come off the box we push em of in the water. Its helped all but a couple of them of them. Theres just some dogs that are cut out for swimming and some aint. Im not wanting to start a big argument, thats just my experience with water races. Take it or leave it.

Thanks for the comments,

He jumps in and swims really well. In fact he beats most of the other dogs, but he would be better off if he would launch instead of just slip into the water.

When there is concrete he runs about 50 feet and then jumps in, which does me no good because he is then DQed.
