Dave

I have a female out of Gunslinger and a Nailor gyp that I really like, she was 2 when I got her and had only been in the woods twice. I got her in the spring and hunted her all summer, she acted just like a pup would (never hd matured yet) and then one night ran a treed a coon I turned loose and has done it on her ever since then. She has a big loud mouth, bawl on track and hard 100+ chop on tree. I've seen her run hot track fast and grub out a old track and have a coon. I had her in one hunt and had it not been for 1 handler mistake and 1 dog mistake she would have won the hunt. The fact that it was the first night she had been in the woods for 5 months because of pups, she might have overcome the handler mistake LOL. She is a nice looking red headed blanket back dog. You can see a pic of her http://www.mudcreekkennels.homestead.com/welcome.html

MUDCREEK I'M LOOKING FOR SOME INFORMATION ON HOW THESE DOGS WORK AND SOME OF THEIR TRAITS. I HAVE GOT 2 OF THE YOUNGEST PUPS LEFT OUT OF GUN AND GRNTCH SACKETT'S LITTLE LADY THAT ARE 14 MONTHS OLD. THE MALE IS TIGHT MOUTHED AND CHOP ON BOTH TRACK AND TREE. THE FEMALE IS WIDE OPEN ON THE GROUND WITH A BIG SCREAMING BAWL AND TREES WITH A BAWL AND CHOP. I AM JUST WONDERING THE KIND OF DOGS THESE PUPS WILL MATURE INTO. I HUNTED WITH 4 OR 5 GUN PUPS BEFORE I BRED LADY AND I WAS IMPRESSED. I SEE YOU ARE FROM MO. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

There is a guy by the name of Keith Sanders that lives down by truman lake some where that has had some gun dogs. He has a real nice female that is dual grand and tough to beat. She is real quite on track but fast on tree. He likes them alot I think. Other than that I can't help. Sorry. Chris

CHRIS I HAD FORGOT ABOUT KEITH'S FEMALE BEING OUT OF GUN. I HEAR SHE IS A GOOD ONE ALSO BUT AWFUL TIGHT ON THE GROUND. I HOPE MY FEMALE DOESN'T TIGHTEN UP BECAUSE I LIKE THEM TO OPEN GOOD.

I'm north of Columbia about 45 miles. If Gun threw dogs like this female I have I'd like to have more. She is wide open on track and can really push one. She has more of a male dog mouth and trees right up on the wood with a bawl locate and then you'll hear a triple chop and then she settles in to a nice hard chop. I hope yours turn out as good or better, this is the only dog I have ever hunted with out of Gun but I've heard nothing but good from those that hunted with him and his pups.

MUD CREEK JUST GOT IN FROM HUNTING MY GUN FEMALE. SHE SEEMS TO GET BETTER EVERY TIME I GO. HER AND MY NTCH DOG RAN A COON IN A CORNFIELD TONIGHT ABOUT 20 MINUTES WIDE OPEN. WHEN THEY CAME OUT AND FELL TREED SHE SOUNDED LIKE SHE WAS HUNG IN A FENCE. THIS IS THE 1ST ONE IN A LONG TIME THAT REMINDS ME OF THE LIPPER FEMALES I USED TO HUNT. IF GUN HADN'T OF DIED I'D BREED MY OLD FEMALE BACK TO HIM IN A HEARTBEAT. I SURE LIKE WHAT I SEE SO FAR.

I breed my female to a heavy Spring Creek bred dog and kept two pups (just turned 1), but I haven't pushed them near hard enough this summer. I've concluded I have too many youngs dogs to hunt and not enough time. Anyway one of them I sold to some folks somewhere down your way, closer to Sedalia I believe, they are telling me the female they have is really doing the job. They way it sounds she is very loud with a bawl on track and a hard fast chop on the tree. They tell me she even split trees and holds pressure. Of the other pups I know about they all get after a caged or turned loose coon. Out of my 2, one has opened a little on track and treed and the other one has opened track. Which is just fine with me I like to see a dog gradually get better than BAM all at once it runs and trees, it may just be in my mind but those don't seem to last as long.

Dave, I have hnted with the Anne female a couple of times. She is real tight on track but she is a hell of a hound. There are a few walkers that I would consider feeding and she could have a pen at my house any day. I hunted with her mother also but she was fat and out of shape at the time. I couldn't get a good read on her as she was out of shape and we were in very rough hunting. Keith usually has some good hounds so he might be a good one to talk to about those dogs. Chris

CHRIS WHEN I HAVE SOMETHING WORTH TAKING TO A FEW HUNTS I USUALLY SEE KIETH OUT MAKING THE ROUNDS AS WE HIT A FEW OF THE SAME HUNTS. I HAVEN'T HUNTED WITH ANNE BUT SEVERAL GUYS SAY SHE IS REALLY NICE. I WONDER WHAT KIETH HAS BRED HER TO AND HOW THE PUPS TURNED OUT. MY FEMALE AND ANNE WOULD BE 3/4 SISTERS AS THEY ARE BOTH OUT OF SACKETT JR. FEMALES. THE GOOD GUN PUPS I HUNTED WITH WERE OUT OF THIS KIND OF CROSS. I'VE HUNTED MY PUP 2 NIGHTS THIS WEEK AND I REALLY LIKE HOW SHE ACTS. I JUST NEED TO TAKE THE TIME AND START TO SINGLE HER OUT AND MAKE HER A COONDOG. ANY OF YOU MISSOURI BOYS COMING TO CLINTON THIS WEEKEND FOR THE RQE? I'LL BE THERE HUNTING AND HOPING TO GET LUCKY.
