Most petitions have to legally only canvas those people in the district that the petition would cover. If this is such a petition, any one who signs it from a different district/city/region would make the petition null and void. Check into it.

A local group, operating under the name "PAWS" is raising funds for a kill shelter in Center, Texas. They have professed an affiliation with HSUS, which now operates jointly with PETA on certain issues. They are now claiming they are affialiated with the American Humane Association (AHA). They are presently repairing a 12-compartment vehicle for their Animal Control Officer & plan to operate county-wide. The Mayor of Center is helping to speed up the process of the "dog pound" as he calls it. The VP of PAWS mentioned that the PAWS animal control officers (ACOs) will be trained by HSUS & she is already talking "registration" of all dogs, with other restrictions. Shelby County has MANY coon, fox and hog hunters. We have a couple of fox pens. In fact, an annual historic fox hunt is going on this week at Boles Field, about 25 miles from Center. The Shelby County Sporting Dog Alliance is forming (with help from the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance) to monitor all dog-related proposed laws in order to protect our right to free cast our hounds and to keep as many as we choose to house and feed. We'll be having our first meeting in the next week or so at a restaurant & only KNOWN houndsmen & hunters will be allowed. We'll have someone posted at the door to restrict entry to anyone who should not be privy to what we discuss.
I believe the reason the Dallas people want our signatures is to prove to government officials that there are MANY MANY people who object to the HSUS/PETA Mandatory Spay/Neuter law. The person who sent me the Dallas petition knows where I live and that people who DON'T live in Dallas will sign it, but they sent it from the suggestion of their attorney to emphasis the fact there are MANY MANY dog owners with the power to fight and remove unreasonable laws & that we are united in our beliefs.
