Pups tree style?

iv got a 7.5 month old pup that is running track on his own and last night he treed his first coon. when i got to the tree he was setting about four feet out under the coon looking straight up hammering away. he could not see the coon because it was laying on top of a limb. after i had been at the tree a bit he would run into the tree and tree on the wood for a min. but would go right back out and set under it and tree. he has only been hunting for a week now, and im wondering if this will be his tree style or is it just one of them things that will happen from time to time. also how often should he be hunted, two or three time a week?

thanks nate

This is great to hear Nate!! I would bet there was a down draft and he could smell that coon the best from where he was sitting.

I have one that sits back like that when she wants and is a belly-up on the tree type of dog other times... As long as she's showing me mr. rusty raccoon, i don't mind at all.

Tree style

Sounds like you have a nice prospect. The way a pup trees the first few times is normally how they will tree for life. Most always they will improve as they get more confidence but the style more times than not will remain basically the same. It could be that this is not his tree style at all but rather he was just winding the coon and to me that shows smarts. I'd hunt him alone two times a week for one maybe two turnouts then put him with another dog one night a week. Try to always end on a good note and always put him up wanting more. I wouldn't hunt him much harder until he is 10 or 11 months old then increase the time in the woods. Good luck with your pup.
