I got one thing to say.
DPS.
Delivery Point Sequencing. I am a letter carrier, daily I deal with letters that were sent from say Houston Texas, to Dallas Texas. The problem? I deliver mail in Michigan. It does not happen a ton, but it does happen. I can tell you a secret to ensure this never happens again.
When you need to send something really, really important, make sure that you include the plus four, after the Zip Code.
That is the real key to making sure your letter does not get kicked out of the Sorting Machine and flipped into the wrong tray.
99% of the time letters get delayed, it is for exactly what I described above. The other 1% of the time it is something like a letter got wet and the address was obliterated. Sometimes we humans even make mistakes and mis-deliver. Sometimes one letter will piggy back another letter that wasn't sealed properly and it gets attached to the sticky part of an unsealed envelope.
All in all we aren't perfect, but if you really want a hair raising experience, try any other country's Postal Service. It'll make you appreciate what we have here a lot more.
Sorry about you missing out on that pup Wipe, we screwed up.
