Astro/tracking units in Nite Hunts???

Just checking to see how many would like to see UKC allow use of locating devices during hunt time?

Personally I would like to see them allowed. IMO it will help keep the dogs off of roads, off property they shouldn't be on and could save the cast some walking/hunting time.

To me if someone wants to cheat they aren't going to need a gps/tracking unit to do it. I'd take the chance of getting cheated to have the chance to know when my dog was getting in danger. If I get cheated I can still hunt Bowser next week. If he gets splattered on the road...... I'll likely be out of the hunts until I can get a replacement up to speed. I've thought they should have been allowed before the gps just so you know which way to walk to listen. IMO the rules need to change to reflect the technology being used every night in the woods by 99% of the people hunting in the hunts. All of us use our tracking systems all week long while we pleasure hunt.... why can't we use them in a hunt as well?

I feel the same way about the Astro tracker as any other tracker. It is against the rules to track with the clock running and it should stay that way.

I'd like to use mine in hunts too for all the reasons you stated. They are a great tool and I've already gotten my dog out of trouble with it. But on the other hand it would give me an advantage over anyone without one. For example, I've noticed that by watching my dog's movements with my Astro, I can often predict when he's getting ready to strike even though he hasn't yet barked. It sure is hard not to put it on him in a hunt but I can understand why the rules don't allow it.

I dont know about using them but it should be able to stay on with the sounds off and it a pouch..It just works that much better when you really need it. Put a clause in that ANYBODY caught using a tracker during hunt time will be barred for a year..That should keep the not so diehard cheaters from sneaking a peek but I dont really see how you could cheat!!!! Mine looses signal WAAAAAAAAAAAAY before my dogs out of hearing and once they tree it takes a min or more for it to tell me they are treed...The only thing I could think off in a way of cheating would be.Pitching a dog in DEEP after looking at system..Then the judge haqs to hear dog anyhow for it to struck or treed............SO, Yall tell me some other ways you might cheat with it............

I'm just curious as to what the advantages would be of using a tracking collar over not using one that would effect the outcome of a cast?

I know they are against the rules as they are right now. My question is why are they illegal to use? I'm not talking about just the Astro, I mean any tracking device.

I understand why they made the rule when they made it, at that time many people didn't have them to use so yeah those with a tracker would have an advantage of knowing which direction the dog was. However now it's different. I can't think of a single hunt over the last few years that a dog in my cast was not wearing a tracking collar.

My point on the issue is this........

You have to hear the dog to strike him.
You have to hear the dog to tree him.
He has to bark once every 8 minutes to keep his strike alive.
He has to bark once every 2 minutes to keep his tree alive.
He has to have a coon to get plus points.

Even the very best trackers cannot assist the dog in any way with any of those things. So again my question is this...... why can't they be used in a hunt?

The use of tracking devices in hunts could save your dogs life.

I just want to know how a tracking device is going to make a dog better or worse in a hunt on any given night?

well here isone reason I just came up with, someone dogs is struck in, he pulls out his beeping tracker and nobody can hear thier own dog. Then he knows by the signal his dog is treed and trees it. crazy, just leave them off like any tracker.
