Your poll isn't really very usefull. I'm sure nearly everyone uses so much more to choose than just the two choices you gave.

I think the biggest justice you can do yourself is getting a pup out of dogs that you personally know the farther back the better. By doing this you have an idea on what to expect, know when things just arn't working, and have an idea of how a pup should look when finished.

Buying some random dog with a good pedigree adds a whole nother element to the crapshoot of picking a pup.

IMO ....The hardest/worst thing is taking someones word on the pedigree. Even if you try to do your homework and ask a ton of other. Remember the older gerneration hunters use to walk hunt during competitions (back in the day)....so the opinions are the differnece between night an day....A hunter today may say that a particular Bloodline was the best there was...but in fact the hound was always walk hunted over hot tracks and really didn't have the sence or ability to run a cold one...Rules have change since then and so have the standards...In my opinion, if your completely serious about buying a pup....go out with both Sire and Dam (independantly if neccessary) and check out their hunting styles and then form an opinion. Decide what you want...It's no different than Horse Racing...Just because you have Seattle Slew as a Sire, does mean she run just as fast with just as much heart.

Even the best hounds today and yesterday have faults.
