Right to Retrieve

I need a copy of a statute from a state that has a right to retrieve law. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

i was told

by a DNR officer just the other night that we don't have a right to retrieve law. He said as much as he hated it b/c he supposedly hunted himself.....

long story short i knew where my dog was, went to talk to the land owner, who wasn't home i immediately turned around and left. I met the land owner on the way out and he told me trespassing was a good way to get shot...i call 911 of course they were in a huge hurry to come help.....well i got a call that he showed up at another house....so i left, called the game warden and he said we do not infact have a right to retrieve.

so if we do i would love a copy as well....

go to enotes.com and put in encyclopedia of everyday law, and then put in tresspassing, and i believe it will show every states law on the subject.

I honestly dont know why its even much of an issue...

If a landowner is crazy enough to shoot you, I doubt he is going to be bothered much by your right to retrieve either.

If your dog gets somwhere it aint supposed to be, leave your gun at the truck, use your light sparingly and go get it....If confronted by an angry landownwer take your a$$chewing like a man, If that isnt good enough for him, have him call the sheriff.

In Iowa we have the right to retrieve strayed animals. It is under the trespass laws and it says it is not trespassing if your animal strays on the property of others. It says you have the right to retrieve your animal by taking the most direct way to it without damaging any property.

MN , you have the right to retrieve your hound with out permission. Cant take a gun when doing it. Suppose to take the shortest route in and out. If any one shoots your dog on thier property, its up to 5 years inprisonment for who ever shoots them. If you ever have a problem with land owners retrieving your dog, call your local game warden, Most sheriff dept dont know the law. Always have your game wardens no on hand or in your cell phone. Never know when you might need it. Had a guy some years back give permission, then a hour later chased us out with a gun, kept 4 coon hides. Called the warden he charged him with having coon with out a small game licens. And could of got him for terraistic threats with a gun. We said no thats not necisary and we took our hides and left

I appreciate the responses. BigBadGaBlues----------You are correct that Ga currently has no right to retrieve. The purpose of my post is to find other states that do, and hopefully get the Ga legislature to adopt some similar law in Ga. I'm working with the Georgia Federation on this. The Georgia Federation is trying to become more proactive in pursuing rights for coonhunters.

J please let me know if I can help in any way. A right to retrieve law would be a major victory for hunting dog owners in Ga.

Are you aware of House Bill 927? Rep Mark Williams has proposed it. It makes it a felony to remove tracking collars from found dogs! Ga hunters need to e-mail, phone, write in support of this also.
