Depends on how he lost it- did he bark himself hoarse, or did a hand grenade go off in his mouth?

I'd say if it was barking only it might come back, but the lunging on the chain may have damaged his vocal cords. I'd let a vet check it out and invest in a barking collar in the meantime.

I had one that lost her voice after she was put on a chain and barked all the time. Her voice NEVER came back to even 1/2 of what it was before.

my DanIV dog

barked himself out in a kennel (no chain). i was gone fishing in canada for a week and the wife decided to put the horse in a lot next to the dog kennels to clean up some tall grass. the dog barked the whole week i was gone. his mouth was moving and no sound would come out. after different therapies and a no-bark collar he got about 60% of his mouth back. before this happened he was one of the loudest dogs i ever owned.

I've had 2 lose their voices. One had an allergy basically and it came almost back. The other one barked himself out and his bark came all the way back. I had another male that lunged and pulled on his chain and his track bark got weak but sounded fine when he treed.

As of today hes much better,,i went behind the house to check a trail cam this morn,,all dogs were barking and i could pick him out easy.
