Hunting in the cold

I'm new to coon hunting and I'm wondering if it is a waste of time to run my dogs in the cold if the coon are holed up. The nights have been in the low 30s here in Michigan. Thanks 4 the help JS

I disagree, if there is snow on the ground you probrably won't see them below 20, without snow I have treed coon down to 10 above, remember they are not like coyote and fox they have no fur on there tootsies!

The cold weather has kept me in for the last week or so. That and Firearms deer season here in Michigan. Hopefully I'll get out in the next few nights, but tio be honest, I am out in the elements all day for 8-10 hours, I guess i am getting whimpy in my old age. Besides all of the above, my dog simply does not hunt ver ygood in these temperatures, he is pretty hot nosed, and can't move an older track too well.

I've treed several coons in my area with temps in the 10-20 degree range as long as the snow isn't real deep. Deep snow, wind and colder usually ends things (for about 3 months around here). That's why I'm sitting on my rear now instead of out having a good time in the woods. Happy hunting!

it was

15 degrees last night with no wind the coon were out but not traveling to far from the dens. with this ice crust, i would think they will be getting hungry and moving along open streams and food plots. unless they have jackhammers to bust thru the ice..lol theres not much feed for them right now...

I don't hunt below 0. Even at those temps look for food and water for coons. Coon will move down to 25 below but I won't be hunting them in that cold unless they are causing problems on dairy farms.
