UKC Squirrel Hunt in Michigan Results
The Michigan Squirrel Dog Association (MSDA) sponsored our first hunt today, a UKC hunt at the Central Michigan Sportman Club in Stanton. On the way to the hunt, all I could think of was Chris Berman from ESPN saying "The frozen tundra of Lambeau field....". It was 12 degrees, dark and snowy, and a stiff breeze blowing out of the north, so it didn't look like it was going to be great squirrel hunting. Nevertheless, we had a good turnout in spite of the weather, good food, and a lot of fun.
Dave Plowman won the registered class by treeing three squirrels with his nice young cur, Bad River Whitey, on a very tough day. Andy Davis took 2nd place with his young cur. Loyd Frisbie won the champion class with Pine River Cry and Kirk Evan's boys, Wyatt and Mitchael, won the treeing contest with Red. In the show competition, Loyd Frisbie won the female best of show with Pine River Lady and Dave Plowman won male best of show with Whitey. Andy Hall won best of class and breed with Bellwood Daisy. The winners won Buck trapper pocket knives.
I would like to extend special thanks to Tim Rolling and Danny Eller for their great attitudes and willingness to help the MSDA in any way that they can. Tim helped with the entries and Danny cooked up hearty breakfasts for all of the hunters. Tim and Danny, you guys are great assets to the MSDA. Lastly, a special thanks to the Central Michigan Sportsman Club for the use of their facility
