1st Feist

Picked up a Treeing Mountain Fiest yesterday. 10 weeks old, and I will have to say appears to be the smartest acting pup I have ever owned. Looking forward to getting him in the woods to see some of that tree power out of a little dog.

pup

Update on Feist.
Pup is named Tanner. He learned his name and will come when called after just a couple tries. This is sure diffenent than a hound. He actually listens. He is learning to sit - stay. he tries, but does not quite have it yet. Not quite 3 months old. He is heading for his first excursion into the woods on Saturday Morning.
I will post the pups progress. This is very interesting for me!

1st day in the woods

Monday was Tanner's first day in the woods. He did awsome for the first time out. constantly on the move. I shot 2 squirrels, and the 22 noise did not even phase him.
This pup amazes me. He will be 12 weeks old on Friday the 16th.

More to come!

No woods time -

with deer season on, no woods time for Tanner. But, he is doing well at learning... he comes quite well. Learning stay, sit, fetch. Loves to play and loves attention. Can't wait until next weekend, and gun season is over!

Training

Don't shoot to many out Tanner hasn't barked up at or Tanner will learn quick he doesn't have to bark up to get them meat. One may not be training all the time but a dog is learning all the time.

Best of luck with your new huntin' buddy! You better be careful, these feist dogs have an addictive personality!

Tanner!

I have been in Washington DC since last wednesday, returning late last night (travel-a whole other story!). My wife has been taking care of my dogs, which she does a fantastic job of, but.., Tanner sure was happy to see his "buddy". We will be working and playing alot today, and maybe get to the woods early this week.

Mike English - I look forward to the hunt on the 15th, and being able to meet you and some of the others on this board in the squirrel hunting world. I would expect to maybe see some I know from the coonhunting groups? See you then.

Woods time

Its been terrible cold here, especially for this time of December. yesterday was bright and sunny, but only about 26 degrees. I left work about 4pm, and "had" to get out in the woods. Coonhunting last night was out of the question for me, with a predicted low of 14 degrees. So... I grabbed Tanner and took about a half hour walk in the woods. Never saw a squirrel, and only a few tracks in the fresh snow from that morning. Tanner really did not do much of anything, I think he was cold and not much to"smell" or investigate with everything burried in the snow. But, I think it was a good thing to get him out, I know it did me some good to get outside - I HATE this time of year - its dark way too early.
