bigcastle, one of the prettiest floors I ever laid my eyes on was featured on DIY on evening a couple months ago. They were renovating an old bed and breakfast type farmhouse and the barn that was on the property was on its last leg so they decided to take the lumber from the barn, plain it down, cut tongue and grooves in it and refinish it with a natural finish and it was absolutely beautiful. I really didnt think I would like it when they first started taling about what they had in mind with 6or8" planks, I thought that was way too wide. Boy was I wrong. I have always thought hardwood foors were pretty but this was completely awesome. When we decided to build our house I took something I remembered seeing on that show and we implemented it here and that was seeing the knots in the floor. That was what really set that floor off. Thats why we chose the seconds in the hardwood for our house. The price was just a bonus but having some knots in the wood gave our floor a little more character and real feel to the wood and dont get me wrong seconds are pretty clean run too but there was just the right amount of "natural blemishes" that we both loved and thats what we went for.
willseeya, I wish there was a way that I could just have it lifted to my property. I know there will never be another crop put in there but it is a piece of the history that goes along with the community here and I hate to see it go. Havent heard him say anything about it in a while and I know none of the other folks round here want to see it go either. I know of at least 4 including myself that has tried to talk with him about keeping it till it at least deteriorates to where it is a hazzard so maybe he could reconsider, who knows.
