GR.NT.CH.Long's Hardtime Hawk one of Carter Longs dogs. I seen him catch at least 10 coon on the ground while being wide open on track. He could really move on the ground like few I've ever seen.

I have to agree with Dave. Little Joe threw some of the track drivingest dogs that ever drew a breath.

honesty

honest is... briar creek dogs are generally a little more silent on the ground but will push a hot track with the best of them, rocky bred dogs are generally pretty fair trackdogs but can lack a little tree, the roy dogs i've been around haven't been strong track dogs but have had a good amount of tree i have also seen them be fair layup dogs, the wilcox hounds have been my favorite and the best for open on track and a whole lot of tree with it. I've hunted with very few rapper bred dogs but what i've seen is a whole lot of tree with a small amount of track mouth, but again... i've only hunted with a few. my favorite cross is a wilcox stud on a briar creek female, seems to really produce. Anything where you can double up on saint nick or lucky in the 3rd generation is really going to throw track and tree into your hounds.

English

PCE, what is your opinon on the best English track dogs, and how many diffrent lines of English have you hunted with? JMO, I have seen the junior dogs and lightfoot to be some of the most consistent track dogs.
I am curious to see in the future how the dogs line bred on St.nick turn out, not hunting style but other issues.

I would have to say Darrol Burrows Grand Lake dogs out of Oklahoma have been the most consistent at throwing track drivers who where also solid tree dogs. That I have seen anyway.

Ive seen some good crosses in other bloodlines who had it, but as a whole line the Grand Lake dogs win hands down.

Razoo,

There will be some Nick blood here as we go forward. He and his full sister Lucky produced, bottem line. At some point, hopefully the next heat cycle, WY will be bred to a son of his out of Queen. Nite Thunder.

I've tried several of the popular bloodlines mentioned above and a few that weren't. For the type of hunting I do, which is primarily all big game. I've had by far the best luck in getting good track dogs, from the very coldest tracks to really moving the hot ones, since I've been hunting Lightfoot hounds..

Darrell Burroughs Grand Lake stuff can flat push a track.

The Lightfoot dogs can too.

I would have to agree with Dennis, and Larry. The Grand Lake line can move a track as can Little Joe and Lightfoot. The best track driver I have ever seen (heard) was Kellers Mike bred dogs.
Rocky dogs seem to drive tracks very well but seem to lack the tree works but will stay there as long as it takes to get to the tree.

English

I have 2 year old pup here, grandson of Grand Lake Tack and Grand Lake Blue Squaw. He is a track pusher, by all means. Alot of Grand Lake bred hounds go back to LightFoot.

Ronnie for pointing that fact out.

Also I really got to disagree with whats been said about the Rocky dogs. They are first and foremost a tree dog. But maybe I dont know much about them.

gonna guess in a year u may disagree Dale. They can track but are prone to gettin hung up on water and settling on a tree on a hard cold track. Here is a typical Rocky bred hound from my experience. Again its all about the experiences you have had with them. Altho Ive had a few.

Rocky bred dogs NOT treeing

They must have been DEAD.<LOL>
The Rocky dogs I have hunted with had To Much Tree. But they sure made it sound good slick or coon.
Did anyone on this post ever hunt with Boyds Joe ?? I never did, I was wondering about anyone else. I have hunted several direct off Joe and owned several grand pups.

I used to hunt quite a few direct Rocky sons and daughters back when we hunted pups for people. The ones I seen had drive to spare, and were tree dogs. Good mouths, and the tracking was kind of across the board. I remember one in perticular who made a habit of being found 3-5 miles from where you cut him in Jan/Feb when the coon were scarce. Seems like there were alot of them who were chop on track.

I will tell you one thing about Darroll. He flat out will not tollerate a dog who cant make a bad track fly.

They also have to be bawl on track and have a good locate. He wont tollerate a chop mouth track dog. His females have mouths that alot of male dogs would be proud of.

He is also the man who sold David Minson GRNTCH Cabin Creek Pukin. He raised her from a pup.
