To me , a dog that always splits is not very enjoyable to hunt while pleasure hunting with friends. But , would make for a successful comp dog.
A friend had a dog that I just loved hunting by himself. If he struck , he was gonna tree. And a VERY high percentage of the time , he had the coon on the outside. If the coon weren't moving , he'd just fall treed on the BIGGEST tree ( circle ) in the woods.
But , when we took my female along , it was a split-tree every time. Took all the fun out of it for me. LOL
Absolutely the closest thing to a perfect comp dog I've ever seen.
When I go hunting with friends , it's to have a good time shootin' the bull. If the dogs are split-treeing all night , it's cuts into my " bull-shootin' " time. LOL
Other than that , they are both one and the same. If it strikes , it better get treed. And when it gets treed , it better have the coon. PERIOD !
