lol. you said it. my thoughts are that if you live in america, you speak english. this is americas language. if you can't. learn it. and if you don't want to learn it. then don't expect to communicate with americans. it's ridiculous. maybe if we could get the national gaurd working on border patrol we would not have this problem? just a thought

hey guys

You sound like the French Quebecois! English is not going away, even if our current president has problems with it. Remember the concept of America as melting pot? Its not a bad thing to retain your skills in your first language. I know I can't even read any of the languages my grandparents spoke. Wish I could. I have a book written by my Hungarian great grandfather. I don't even know what the title means.
In Brooklyn, NY, where I live part of the week, our Spanish speaking population is largely Puerto Rican, and 100% American. There's no conflict. There are neighborhoods where most business is transacted in Spanish because that's the language most are most comfortable in. I don't have a problem with that. . I'm not fluent, but I can give or get subway directions in Spanish, and know plenty of insults in the language. We need people fluent in spanish if we're going to get along well with those countries south of our border.
Give those Spanish speakers a generation, and they will all be bilingual--something we need if our country is going to get along with the rest of the world. A few more Arabic speakers on our side might have made things go a lot smoother in Iraq.

Emily, I can't speak Spanish, but I can speak Latin........that's Pig Latin of course. I also can give directions to Subway. We have three in Mt. Airy, and they all toast your buns if you want them to. LOL!!!!!

I have travelled quite a bit in NY, and if you can understand New Yorkian talk, you can understand anybody. People in New York City talk alot with their hands, especially when they are driving. I've never seen so many people waving , " HEY." Down here we wave with all five fingers, up there they wave "HEY"with just their middle finger.
I'm just thankful for my good education, and for the few things I have learned.
There was a time in my life when I couldn't spell genius, and just think, TODAY I ARE ONE!!!!!!

i disagree with you. i think that we should keep out of other peoples buisness, as far as the relations with other countries. were sending our jobs overseas, and medaling a little to much in other countries problems when we have our own right here. if they can't speak english shame on them. it is what the language is here. learn it. if i went to move to another country i would not try and speak english i would try and learn whatever language they speak.
