The Full Cry Magazine

It’s been a little while now that Full Cry is posting some of the good stories from years ago…
I read those in the July issue…one story begins when the kid was 6 years old back in 1910…it’s really good to go back in time and just visualize what it looked like in those times as the story is told…

Another of those stories talked about blooding up the dog with the first game of choice that was caught…first time I heard that one…

It looks as if Full Cry is trying to keep their magazine in business…I hope they hang in there for many more years…

It has shrunk in size but it is still my favorite magazine. I enjoy the old stories too.

I enjoyed O. L. Beckham's stories the best. Right in the middle of the magazine every month. He made it sound so good you would have liked trading with him even if you got beat.

When I was a teenager I did a monthly column called “Young Hunters Perspective.”
It was a great opportunity and I really appreciated the support and exposure the magazine gave to a poor young boy from West Virginia. Met a lot of good people and made life long friends because of that magazine.
It was and still is my favorite publication.

I'm Facebook friends with O. L. Beckham's daughter. His wife just passed away last week.

Would anyone know where or how to purchase one of O.L’s books?

Thank you.

Full Cry

Many years ago it was published in Sedalia, Mo. by the Walker family. Sedalia is about one hour from us and my huntin buddy and I would drop in once in a while and visit with Mrs. Walker who took over every detail in publishing the monthly magazine after her husband died. We always were amazed that she could do such a good job cause to see her big round table stacked high with all kinds of pictures and ads and checks and everything else it was a wonder she knew where anything was but she knew and that was just her way of being organized. She was a real nice lady and enjoyed coonhunters dropping by and telling her what a fine job she was doing.

The Full Cry magazine is one of my favorite magazines…it is losing to the newer technology like forums and now Facebook and podcasts…

Not only that but we are losing hunting real estate to human population growth which means clearing off more hunting habitats making way for housing projects and building more Walmart’s…and with that comes the posting of more land…
the hunting spots are getting smaller so hunting with beagles and short range squirrel dogs is getting more popular…

Makes it tough for folks like me who likes to keep dogs that won’t quit a track until the game is brought to bay…

Having said all that…we need to be as supportive as we can and subscribe to these magazines that are there for the hunters, hunting and hunting dogs…
