Hunting Accident- Ace's Update

Many of you probably saw our post several weeks ago on our dog that was shot while hunting... thought you may want to see an update.

Ace is doing well now. It's been three weeks since his accident and he spent the first few days at the vets office. Came home after 4 days with five pens, a metal plate, and two very long scars (2nd was from a bone graft taken off the hip). The bullet was left in his chest. It was located in a muscle and they said removing would possibly to more harm then leaving it in.

He had a minor set back last week and had to be put back on antibiotics. He had rubbed a contact sore on his opposite side from trying to get up and down off the concrete without using that leg. Left a nasty looking 2x4 inch gash in his side. Should heal, eventually...

Here are some shots I took last week.

All the stitiches and staples are out now, the hair is growing in quick, and he is back in his outdoor kennel which makes him much happier. Hoping he continues to make good progress and can get back in the woods next spring!

Glad he's doing good, and thanks for the update.

So often people post something on here and then leave everyone hanging so we dont know what the outcome was...I wish everyone would give an update after the initial post.

Thanks for the Update!

I'm glad he is doing this well! Boy, does he look like my greyhound has a few times...usually from a twig that snagged his skin.....
Hope Ace's recovery is COMPLETE and that he has no aftereffects from this awful incident. You guys will give him the best chance for a full recovery.

Best wishes and thanks again for the update, Heather

Hey all,

We've recently moved and have had to farm out our hounds for a few months due to unhappy neighbors...

Planning on starting a house in the next few months so should get everyone back together by spring.

Having a hard time finding someone to take Ace. No one is willing to play nurse for him, and those who would can't due to work schedules.

We are going to give Ace away to someone willing to care for him through his recovery and then put him back in the woods. Here are his requirements:

Must be contained for 5 more months to a pen or kennel. NO CHAINS or anything else he could get tangled in.

No running for the next 6 wks. Then he can exercise on a leash with supervision.

No further treatments or medication are necessary at this point. He's UTD until spring of next year on vaccines also.

That's about it, should make someone a wonderful dog for next year. Anyone interested let us know! We will be asking several questions to insure that he will be properly cared for.
He's a good boy, just needs a nice home. For more info on him visit our web page at www.ansfarms.net and go to the boys page, his registered name is Cox's Red Baron.
