Question on Brucalosis test

I have a question and would like to know anybody elses opinion.

Most all stud dog owners require a negative brucalosis test before services.

I thought that the disease came from breeding. So why doesnt the stud dog owners offer the same thing at each breeding?

Sorry if this doesnt make since just had major knee surgery and the percoset is working better anything else

Most stud owners have their studs Vet approved. I wouldn't breed to one that wasn't, same as breeding the females.

they may not advertise that they offer it but as the female owner you do have the right to ask for one. it is an inexpensive test used to protect our breeding dogs.

I can see where the stud owner cold have it done. But do they do it every time. What if some yard dog somewhere met Mr. stud at he end of his chain or butted up against the cage had brucolosis. The owner may not ever know that happened. Which I am sure that any breeder would not let that be spread knowingly but you never know. You would think that there would be a quick test like a swab or some quick blood test like diabetics test for sugar availale for tests like this.

I would hope that all breeders would have their studs tested as well. I know some that don't, but I would not breed to anything that wasn't tested be it male or female.

150 cases a year

You have a better chance of getting your dog hit by lightning than contacting this virus. Your dog will have sweats and move slow etc.
I have tested a few dogs, last 40 yrs.
I never require it, or do my friends.
For an accurate number of cases, check a internet site thay is NOT selling you something.
Mike

Most guys with stud dogs, (most not all) think enough of them to keep them Vet checked pretty regular. Ace goes in this week for his, Shaker was in awhile back. Don't make much sence to take chances with one thats doing things for you.

Both male and female ought to be tested. It's for sure a bad bacteria that you don't want in your dogs or in your kennel. It's also transmissible to people.
