Where are all the honest coonsmen?
It's been one of those days...
Just wondering, what ever happened to making a deal and actually following through with it? We have suffered a series of disappointments lately when dealing with other hound people both male and female. I have to say of the last 5 deals we have attempted to work out, only Richard Bull (Little T Kennels) and Ashley Beaver (A Dream Come True Kennel) have not disappointed us.
Here are our latest situations:
#1 Person contacts us in February regarding a female for sale. REALLY stresses how much they want her and ask to work out a deal... we agree to work with them on payments. Deposit arrives for this dog 4 MONTHS later. 1 month after deposit arrives, dog is still here, no further payments have been received, no signed contract. Person is told dog is no longer for sale (no received contract, no payment, no deal- sales policy is clearly stated on our website). E-mail is then received asking if we ever received our other payments and signed contract (didn't I just say nothing arrived?). A week later, mail comes containing contract and payment post-marked 2 Days AFTER notification was sent saying dog is not for sale... Just a few days later, dog gets injured and requires surgery. So, we are stuck with a dog for 6 months without payment, then pay for a $517 surgery two weeks ago and all her yearly vaccine expenses.
#2 Contacted by a person interested in a dog that is not listed for sale, after several communications, agree to sell dog. Supposed to leave on following weekend, weekend comes and goes dog is still here (they did let us know they weren't coming though). Agree the following week to take payments and hold him for several weeks. Supposed to receive a deposit this week, get an e-mail today that they aren't getting him now after all, but maybe next month. Luckily all we were out on this one was 2 weeks time... (there were personal circumstances that came up for this person, but still irritating).
#3 Person buys two pups, has transportation available at the last minute and is allowed to receive the dogs BEFORE full payment is received. Receive the deposit in record time. Dogs go to new home in early February... payment received late MAY. One (male) is bred TWICE before even paid for, and at 10 mos. old.
Forgot this one...
#4 Trade a youth a pup in exchange for a tracking collar that is supposed to be new. Get the collar. Completely dead, send it off for repairs costing $52. Told if we did this we would get paid back, we did... after 5 months of hounding.
I could go on about some other sour deals.. but these were the most recent. More then a little irritated today and decided to vent.
So, how many of you out there could be described like this? How many honest coon hunters are out there and where are you hiding? It seems like there is a crook behind every bush these days waiting to take advantage of you.
We thought when we put up a web page with a "strict" sales policy and started using contracts we could avoid things like this, guess not. Going to start running background checks on everyone before we do business with them!
