Best Walkers?

What do you consider to be the best blood of walker dogs. I know that you have the Sackett Jr.'s, Lipper's Nailor's, Harry dogs etc., but of walker dogs what do you consider to be the best blood lines and why? Also, which crosses do you think make a good coon dog?

IMO....The WIPEOUT (coma) crossed on a Sackett jr. produces a good balance. Enough track to finish the tree w/ a coon in it.

Another good cross you don't see alot of is Rat X w/ Finley River..I have a buddy that has,...Grntch,Sch Swamp Rat and he is all coondog w/ an exceptional mouth and yes he has the coon too.

I'm sure there are more that work, but I believe what makes a coondog in some areas won't work others.

Hobo...I would have never

thought you would have liked Boone!hahaha
He has Spring Creek Rock back there. That's why I like him.
I like any Rock or Radar blood myself, but it is too far back to make a difference when breeding now. Sackett Jr. you can't go wrong with. Rat Attack sons crossed on any strong tracking dogs like Lipper, wipeout and or Skuna River dogs should give you perfection or as close as you can get.
I did it. Rat Attack son Crossed on a Bark female. I'll let you know in 3 more months. They are three months old now and treeing rags, towels or hides thrown on the fence or tree. If it moves, they are on it. Loud, loud mouths as well. Pretty on the eyes as too.
I like Dual Grand stud dogs myself or ones that could be, but owners don't show on the bench. Just my opinion.

I Like Bozo/Lipper and Coma/Lipper crosses. So far I'm impressed. I was very dissatisfied with my Dohoney/Sackett Jr and a lot of Sackett Jr/Harry dogs I've seen.

Sakett Jr/Nailor crossed on linebred Lipper. LOL, that would be about everything out there probably.

The best line of Walkers or any other breed is the one that works best in the area where you hunt. Different traits are needed in different areas. In the country I hunt many of the Walker owners have very good results with pups out of Credit River Tucker he has crossed good with some of the other bloodlines. Most of the pups he has sired around here are hard going and good tree dogs. Most are extremely loud. They also make very good big game dogs.

This is a very true statement. Although a coondog is a coondog no matter where you put them, some lines are more successful in certain terrains. I think the biggest thing I have learned since starting this sport is that you are at such a great advantage starting a pup if you can hunt with alot of dogs in its up close pedigree and see what you should expect. I think lots of folks buy bred up pups from "great" crosses but really have no clue what they are getting. You have to know what you want before you can start looking for it.

So if you ask what walkers I think are the best? Local ones you can hunt with in your own back yard.

i am not a walker man but i think you people that are breeding walkers are ruining your breed. i dont think as a whole the walker breed is as strong a track dog that it use to be !! i think you have bred for a hard tree dog & most have forgot about the tracking. just an out side observation, i also think that your breeding for an all grand pedegree is going to hurt your breed even more. i dont think most are looking to see what traits are in these dogs, just breeding the titles. i am not trying to be smart a$$ i just can tell a differance in the tracking abuility in your breed. what do you think ???

heres a 13 yr old 3/4 house 1/4 finley river show ch. with 3 wins toward gr show ,hasn't been showed in many yrs but could finish to gr.show if i wanted to show him, even at this age,,

he still has one thing on his mind when i turn him loose and that is to find a coon or bobcat whichever he finds first,,hopefully a coon as he wont be called off when he strikes...run him with a lighted collar so far the coyotes have left him alone..
