outdoor woodburner

My dad has one.It is called a Hardee. It heats water and then runs thru thehouse using baseboard radiators and then empties into a hot water tank.He loves it.His wood use depends on how bad the winter is.it is very efficient it heats the hot water plus the house he said if this one goes bad he will buy another one.

IV OWED TWO, BOTH HARDY'S.......LOVE THEM, AS FAR AS HOW MUCH WOOD YOU BURN DEPENDS ON YOUR FURNACE, IV HAD FORCED AIR & BOILER SYSTEM, THE FORCED AIR USED LESS, ALSO DEPENDS ON HOW MANY SHOWER'S AND HOW MUCH WASH IS BEING DONE, IT USES MORE WOOD FOR SHOWERS AND DOING WASH THEN HEATING YOUR HOUSE, USALLY A TRUCK LOAD A WEEK WHEN ITS REALLY COLD.....SINGLE DIGITS COLD.......BRETT

I dont have one yet.But A bunch of my buddys have them. They dont use that much wood. They say less than there old wood stoves.A wood stove will use about 2 cords a year..One thing they say is to get the biggest one you can afford. The smaller ones need to be filled more offen.1-3 times a day.The larger stoves can go 2-5 days or longer in cool weather..Every 1-2 days in cold weather. It just depends how cold it is..The good thing about them is you dont have to split all your wood.Large chunks will burn a lot longer in the larger stoves...You can also set them up.To use generators when the electric gos out..You can also heat your barns or garage....Some farmers even build there own to burn round hay bales. They heat there homes and dry all there grain with them..They burn a round bale a day when drying grain..

Looks like my house will be heated with propane. I spend about $1000 each year on propane. My unit was around $2500. Time to cut a P/U load of wood and haul it two hours. Chain saw $350 plus maintainance. Buy the wood is $40 to $50 per load. Say you burn two load each month $100 for five months $500. Labor to fill the fire box, cut the wood, etc.. = ?? I do like wood heat but it makes the wife's skin dry and the cost of complaints = ?? Interest on cost above propane unit = $400

If I was to burn wood the outside unit is the way to go.

I can certainly see where cutting your own wood could save money. However this fat boy enjoys to watch a little FB when possible.

I normally start with working about 45 hours a week at the office, get home around 5:15 during the winter months, feed about 180 hd. cows and 100 head of yearlings after work, coon hunt until about 1:00 a.m. . I normally like about 6 hrs rest if possible. Start planting bermuda around the first of April right when haying cattle stops. Bermuda planting stops in June for the most part. Herd work, getting hay baled and weeds cut begins. I don't serve the Lord as much as I should but will be setting next to the wife on Sunday morning and plan on that increasing if I make it to retirement. Last year gross pay around 210K so my hourly rate based on a 40 hr. week is $105 an hour or for the 80 hr. week around $50 per hr.. Cost of a load of wood for this lazy boy ranges between $120 to $240 per P/U load depending on how many hours I want to claim I work. Heated the house with wood, cut and sold lots of it back in the 70's for $15 per load. I do like to fish and haven't caught a fish in over 4 years.

P.S. The wife leaves the house at 6:45 a.m. and returns from school around 8 or 9 p.m. I have attempted to get her to feed cattle where I can get to the woods earlier, she hasn't bought into that program.

out side wood burner

well fellows lets get to the facts. if you have to buy the wood dont put one in. if you dont like to work cutting wood dont put one in if you own your woods where you get the wood or can get it free buy one. i own a taylor 425 style almost as good as a good dog. have had it for about 7 years you will not heat your dog box on two cords a year. maybe 6 to 10 cords a year will do it. depending on how cold it is. price some where around 6,000 dollars. it holds 425 gal of water. verry efficient. oh and yes blueticker you are a proud man would like to have you work with me for a wk. you would not call your self a fat boy. you would be slim and trim and hunt walkers

Yea, I know how those women can take control. I sure feel sorry for those old boys that has to ask permission to leave the house. It certainly wouldn't work in my program.

CHEWBACH, 20 years ago I thought I could work with anyone that wanted to get hooked up, today that isn't so. Haul those square bales of hay all day in 100 degrees and half the night day after day. I actually enjoyed going to the woods and cutting firewood. It was all good exercise and some folks pay big money for someone to tell them how to get exercise. Man how times have changed. It's hard to even find a hay crew today.
