On Sept. 22 at 2 p.m., the Franklin County Public Library’s “Hound Dogs: A Howlin’ Celebration,” a free program combining education and entertainment, will showcase the heritage of hound dogs that has run through Virginia’s culture. An open-to-amateurs hound dog photo contest will lead up to the celebration...
“Howlin’ for Hound Dogs” will spotlight what is good about hounds and honorable about their fans. It will include presentations by the Franklin County Humane Society, Back Creek Coon Club and Franklin County Animal Hospital. Collinsville-based Dean Smith of Dean Smith Music will perform songs about hound dogs that will make you bay with delight...
The library will also run a slideshow of the winners of our “Elvis Got It Wrong” hound dog photo contest featuring the categories of Regal Pose; Best Buddies; “That Doe-Eyed Look”; Action Shot; Cutest Puppy; Distinguished Senior Citizen; and Black & White Portrait. The contest is open to amateurs of all ages. There is no entry fee. Prizes will include an original painting of the top dog winner by local artist Shelley Koopmann.
