I have just had a litter of blue pups. All of them were fine except 1. It’s a male and he was born with a crooked tail. It’s like a 90 degree angle almost. I have asked around and some have said it comes from the hammer blood. I aint ever seen any thing like it any body have any Ideas. Ill put a pic on here later

no one knows where it comes from, it shows up in all lines...once the pup gets a couple days old, just cut the tail right in front of the crook....a short tail wont hurt anything, except maybe bench showing....toe nail clippers, a sharp knife with a piece of wood below it, heavty duty scissors....they will only bleed a couple mins, and then they will be fine....just cut in between the bones in the tail...

I'd let it get some age and then have a vet dock it just above the bend. It'll get wacked and bleed alot if ya dont. My uncle had a 3 quarter length tailed bluetick, vaugnh blood. One of his best cat dogs.

i have straightened tails on newborn pups with adhesive tape.
there are pups born with crooked tails in all the breeds and most that i have seen were in big litters.doug robinsons crook tail kate is one of the finest english females i have seen and her crook tail didn't stop her from being a gr show champion theres a hound that is so nice and built so nice her tail didn't hurt her at all

My Crank gyp has it. Only pup out of the 24 out of that cross that does.

Pretty sure there aint no hammer blood in there, shes English.

Not real sure where it comes from or why it pops up every once in a while, but it wont hurt them looking up a tree.

I agree with Levi. Dave told me that one of the older Hammers (I or II I think) had something like three crooks in his tail. I have a heavy hammer bred male here that has one crook, but not quite as bad as your pups.

this is a genetic trait, and whichever hammer dog dave was speaking of, he had to get it somewhere...I have seen it in 3 different breeds....it can also occur with a very large litter...
