Poison Ivy

My wife is very allergic to the stuff. When she gets it she scratches it, then puts clorox bleach on it every 2 hours and it helps dry it up! Burns for a little while!! OUCH!!!

There is different lotions that assist in reducing the itch. We have used egg whites to dry it up. If it's really bad a trip to the doctor may be the best way to get rid of it.

WHITE VINEGAR

it has never bothered me (knock on wood) but it just eats my dad up... he has done everything and even went and got perscriptions for it... about two years ago someone told him to wipe it down in WHITE vinegar and so he tried it... the following day it was almost all dried up... he just wipes it down about every 2 or 3 hours and in a couple of days it is gone..

zinc

i was told that zinc in your system is what fights off poison ivy. my girlfriend had it really bad and i was going to take her to get a shot at the doctors and a guy told me to go to store and buy 100mg zinc tablets and take one in the morning at lunch and at dinner. he said in about 2 or 3 days it should be drying up. he was right. now i have the kids take it about once a week and they havent been getting it either. should take with food also.

dont know if it will work for all but it worked for us.

Get yourself some IvyBlock to help prevent it next time. I've used it for a couple years now and it helps a bunch. I'm very allergic to Poison Ivy and I still might get a couple dots of it even with the Blocker but it's not nearly as bad as without it.

Go to the DR and get the 5 day prednisone packs. I know the spelling is wrong but it works great. 6 pills one day and on down the rest of the week. Drys it up very fast. I have to use it around 2 times a year for poison.

Danny that sounds cruel! That would burn big time. Prednisone all the way for me. 1 day or 2 at most and is well on way to gone.

Water Weed

Not sure of it's real name but it grows wild around here. Bust up the leaves or the stem and apply the juice to your skin. It will be gone in a day or two. I get it bad and this stuff works great and the price is right !!!

Prednisones ok if you don't mind destroying your liver or kidneys. Not good for either one and that includes any living thing. Those major organs have to work overtime to clean the body from it after it is taken!! I don't get it but the wike will stick to bleach!! OUCH!!

Danny, got to agree with you on prednisone. My in law has been on it since he got back from vietnam. He looks like walking death. Caught something over there and that was the only thing that would put it in remission. Kept him alive........barely.

It took me a while, but i finally figured my worst source for poison ivy was the dogs. Now days I get it much less just by washing with yellow dial antibacteria soap immediately after handling the dogs. Once I do get it I use Ivy Dry as others have already recommended.

Yeah Danny the DR's don't like giving Prednisone very often I have to have it bad before I use it. I usually get it on my face from wiping my face off when Im hot. Bad thing to do. I usually wear gloves and take them off carefully to wipe face. Wash gloves every time out. I have heard the oil off poison stays alive for up to 1 yr. So wash clothing alot too.

Man I get poison just looking at it! I don't get it much now since Im very carefull what I touch. I bath my hounds alot in the summer too. That way its washed off them as well. Best way not to get it is DON'T HUNT! Well that won't work I guess!
