We had a black n tan that had allergies so bad, he'd loose his bark, and his eyes would mat up. We gave him Benadryl and it helped, and honey for his bark... Good luck it's that time of year.

yes you can. just know that it may make the sleepy or work the opposite way.

also, depending on the type of allergy, it could be food related. you can have the dog tested as well. I had one tested because she was having pencil sized spots of hair missing. turns out it was peanuts, canola oil and mold. I was giving her peanut butter treats. gave her the shots for a few years, esp during warm weather, cut out peanuts and canola oil, have a few years w/ injections, have not had another problem, so no more injections.

I've used Claratin and Benadryl with good results. Everydog is different, so it probally wouldn't hurt to take them to the vet.

not necessarily true. I've bred my female w/ allergies 2x and no issues w/ offspring. Ive bred offspring 2x with no issues. That's like saying dont breed humans w/ allergies b/c kids will have them.

if you can find them cottonseed with the lint still on them works great.... will last until they are removed without breaking down and are very cheap around here as far as bedding goes

The vetalog shot is the best thing I have found for chronic dog allergies. It last about 8 weeks. Not cheap but very effective. We used them all last summer on our female.

How much is it Jim? I have a dog with ear allergies and I've been just giving him Prednizone when it flares up but if this shot would work that might be better......

What type allergies did your dog have?

You can't buy the shot and give it yourself, you have to get it from the vet which means the dog will have to be evaluated and diagnosed by the vet. Ask you vet about it and go from there.
It was the only thing that was effective for our dog. Benedril is a depressant which isn't a good thing for a dog that is competing.

ear allergies? or ear infections? could be the feed they are on. its not uncommon for recurrent ear infections to be the result of a food allergy.

Ear allergies. No infection whatsoever. Vet said it is the same as a skin allergy it just manifests itself in the ear instead of the skin. He is on EA food.

Just like a skin allergy, it inflames them and makes them itchy and hurt. The inside of a dogs ear can manifest allergies just like their skin, according to my vet anyway.
