Looking at a 2000 4x4 Ford Ranger with 3.0 V6…. In the past I have had Toyota trucks and have had no problem, but I found a pretty good deal on this Ranger. Does anyone have any experience that they can share… Are they dependable..? Thanks!!

I use to own Toyotas myself. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0L V6 that I have had for 5 years now. Never had any troubles with it. The only bad thing I have had happen was I got a hold of some bad gas that messed with the sensors which messed with the truck idling.

BTW, is the one you are looking at green?

Back last summer GM announced the layoffs as well.

I had two Toyota's and had nothing but trouble!!I have a 94 ford Ranger with the 4.0 V-6.Had it for 8 or 9 yrs.It has 180,000 miles on it and I will still go anywhere in it.I mainly use it for hunting now.

Lee, the Huntsville Plant is 3 miles from my house. Not only are they adding on to that plant. It is bringing in more industry around the plant as well as increasing the value of my home.

I own a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 V6 motor. I have rode in plenty of Toyotas. I'm telling you right now, these Rangers DO NOT PULL LIKE THOSE TOYOTAS DO. THOSE TOYOTA TRUCKS CLIMB THOSE STEEP MUDDY HILLS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY BETTER THAN THE RANGERS DO.

I dont know about other areas but in middle TN I still see way more Dodges, Fords, GM's than I do foreign cars and trucks. More u.s trucks and more foreign cars.
I had an 86 ranger----full time 4x4 go anywhere truck with 200 thousand miles. Now im driving a 90 model toyo 200 thou miles. Both were good trucks back then and now to me.

I have had toyo's and rangers and liked them both,, the only thing I can say about the rangers are that I had much better luck with the 4 cylinders! Same goes for the toyota's

my father is a rural mail carrier, runs 150 miles of rough dirt roads a day...he has had 2 s10's, a ranger, a lil dodge trck, an isuzu, a mazda, a toyota, and 3 nissans....the s10's lasted less than a year apiece, the rangers entire front end was out of it in less than 6 months, the dodge needed constant work, isuzu got horrible mileage and no power, the mazda lasted decent, and the nissans lasted to 250000 miles apiece, and he sold them still runnin, and he is drivin the yota with 180 k on it....with rough roads and rough drivin every day, nissans will outlast anything, as far as little trucks go....

Nissan by far then Toyota I think. I work in a GM dealership and drive a Toyota. Tuff and dependable. I have a v6 in mine and it will get 20 on hiway. Pretty darn good for a full size truck extended cab too.

The 300 has been known to be a very good engine. It is a Driver Returns On Foot But has been a good engine.

I have owned 4 Ford Rangers and have put over 200K miles on 2 of them. The one I'm currently driving has 260K and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it to California tomorrow. I have had it for 7 years and it has given me zero problems. I have owned 4 cylinders, 2.9 v6's and 4.0 v6's and they all have held up tremendously.

The main problem with vehicles most of the time is the owner and lack of maintenance.

Good point Nathan, the better you take care of them, and maintain them...the better they'll last you with fewer headaches. Even the best truck wont last if you drive like an idiot and dont change the oil, or keep it lubed.

i really like jeep wranglers...small enough to turn on a logging road...pull good, accessories out the yin yang and dependable
they really dont have alot of room...just have to improvise a little
i have had two, my first was a rebuilt 95 that i had for around 8yrs ...had close to 200,000 on it with no problems other than the usual...got one know that has 140,000 give or take ten thou...no problems...both 4cyl's ...they are the trick in these mountains... and fun to drive too

ive had good luck with older small toyota trucks-

when a truck will go 200,000 bear hunting miles with very little repairs its not good ,its a miracle

89 - 93 2.4 L cant be beat as a drivable dog box
u wont be passing anybody with it but just amazing the abuse they will take and good on gas -

im not knocking rangers--dont know anything about them - i owned a 69 77 83 89 and 94 ford full size- the 300 6 motor was bullet proof - they rode nice- constantly needing repairs to everything except the motor
