Training for Nite Hunts

Hello, I'm training a few young dogs trying to get them ready for the hunts. How do you train a dog to facebark? I cant find a book on it anywhere. Also, whats the best way to train your dog to start fights at the tree but tree like an angel once the cast gets there? I keep petting him up whenever he growls and starts fights..is this enough? Thanks for the help.

It's all in the breeding.

UHM, MIKE? Are you feeling ok? Are you taking all your prescribed meds, on time? If so, maybe we better add a few?

klye the sad part is that people know there dogs are mean and still enter them in the hunts and mess up other dogs that people have worked hard on

I was joking with this thread! I just read the one about face barking. We all know the difference between a fight, and barking! I think the interference rule is crazy, and gives fuel to the crybabies out there. Unless a dog bites another one, people need to settle down and just hunt. If your dog is afraid to tree with another dog then leave it home. If a dog bites another one it should be scratched plain and simple.

Face barking, tree jacking, shoulder bumping, posturing with stiff legs...even growling IS NOT FIGHTING. If I were to get scratched because my dog "supposedly" face barked someones hound...there'd be another type of fight breaking out there. I know my dogs and I wouldnt hunt a mean one...everyone needs to settle down unless they see a dog bite another one, and everyone can clearly see a wound or pulled hair.

I don't think we all know the difference. Many of these folks are using the terms facebarking and fighting interchangeably. I have a 2 1/2 year old NTCH female that facebarks and jacks the tree. I don't like it and I discipline her everytime I see her doing it. But, to say she is aggressive, I would disagree. She has been in many hunts and hunted with other dogs all of her life and has never been in a fight. She also very seldom trees alone, so I'm pretty sure she is not running anything off the tree. She is not mean, just excited. I'm sure not going to give her a bullet because I have yet to see a dog that didn't have some faults.
