and here I was planning on attending it this coming year ??

The numbers will most likely drop but it is still for a very good cause, just the wrong registery to draw the numbers.

I know St Jude is a good cause...........I just hope that the #'s are not down with AKC sanctioning it.

I'd hate to see the kids lose out because of the bickering of "KC's".

I'm sure numbers will be down as few dogs in this area are AKC
registered, and are not likely to be either. But you can count on a crowd always.

it amazes me how AKC can even say that they have a "coonhound program" after refusing to acknowledge the existance of all these hounds for all this time.

You know what..I'd expect better from a person. Like I replied to Mark I don't care if Marlo Thomas and Steve Fielder are the president of peta..hsus..akc or the movement to ban guns. We are talking about helping children not chickens and dogs and cats. To drag anything other than helping those children into it is pretty sorry. You aught to be ashamed of yourselves.

i have just about given up coonhunting altogether. i'm tired of the small minded, complaining people who seem to be prevelant in this sport. if its not fun anymore, i'm not going to do it and it's just a pissy whinny bunch of people arguing over registries amd who cheated who. I guess the sport has come down to just this and it isn't fun anymore.

Donate

Guys we can still donate to St. Judes and not go to the hunt.
Just send your entry fees to St. Judes hospital.

I can remember when AKC used to host this hunt, and the numbers WERE down, I sincerely hope that everyone will just remember why we are there, and thats to raise money for the kids. And show up, regardless of who hosts it.
But I think a mistake has been made.
UKC has really supported this hunt........ anyone know "the rest of the story?"
Why did UKC lose it?

Direct from The board

We saw this post and decided to give a board member a call and find out what was going on.
She has explained it to me like this...
AKC called them and said they'd like to come back, and are going to give St. Jude donation of 10,000.00 a year for 3 years.

This board called UKC and UKC said they could not match that type of donation...so, they decided they couldn't turn down the donation for the hospital..which made sense to me also. This is after all, a hunt for the kids.

You can register your hounds to hunt and show on the bench at the hunt, and just for the 3 days if this is what you want to do. She said she thinks it's free to do this, as it is free to register them with AKC now till Dec. 31st.

We have always tried to donate and help with this hunt, and we will again this time around.

We may not agree with AKC on everything..we breed a couple litters a year and we don't want to be under investigation for any of it, but we also know that this is the big St. Jude hunt of the year, every year, so we will be there to support our local group helping St. Jude.

AKC was the first registry to have this hunt, 2 others before UKC held it. UKC has only held it the last 8 years. I hope others will reconsider and come join us.

Polly

UTOH.
ITS NOT THE ONES THAT HUNT THE HUNTS THAT COMPLAIN ITS THE ONES WHO DONT HUNT THEM THAT MAKE THE FUSS.
ITS SAD THAT ALL THIS IS JUST OVER LOOKED BY THE MODERATORS ON ANY BOARD TO LET THIS GO ON. I HAVE A GOOD TIME ON CAST IM ON BE IT UKC OR PKC. I ONLY DREW ONE CAST THAT I WISH I HAD NOT BEEN ON. I DIDN'T KNOW THE RULES THEN BUT IT MADE ME LEARN THEM. THE ONES THAT CRY THE MOST ARE YOUR COMPUTER HUNTERS OR THE ONES WITH NO DOG POWER.

utoh, I am in no way opposed to those that enjoy and beleive the comp. hunts define "COON HUNTING" I enjoyed "COON HUNTING" before the hunts began. Attended the hunts for a few years. COON HUNTING however to me is gettin out there with a good hound by myself or a dog or two and a good friend. Sometimes I now pleasure hunt with guys that regularly attend hunts. The competetive spirit of comp. does "bleed over" into the pleasure hunts. Often times while out there, it turns into a "practice session". This tends to cause just a little "tension".

I recomment to you that you re-consider quitting COON HUNTING because of any individual. Try to discover the real fun of the sport and keep hammering. You're gonna find the type people that you described every where.

well i have a question regaurding this topic, is this refering to one single big hunt? what about our local clubs that hold benefit hunts for st jude? they will still have those right?we have several a year locally and they are usually during the spring or summer and we always attend, even if only to show or bid at the auction, heck we got our best dog at a benifit auction(accidentially LOL).

I would hope that UKC has the type of character to set aside all personal diffreences ,for the sake of the children, and make a statement to encourage all that can attend to do so , All that can not attend to donate .
