Should altered dogs be allowed to compete?

Discussion thread has had so many replies from both sides, wanted to see what everybody would vote on a poll.

Question is: Should Spayed or neutered dogs be allowed to compete in UKC events?

LOL.

Nope, they aren't allowed. Wish they were, we gave a nice one away because he was a rescue dog and had been neutered before adoption. Great dog, just couldn't compete.

You can hunt a spayed or neutered dog in the comp hunts, just can't show them.

I like the showing part, hubby wants to hunt. So doesn't make sense to keep a dog here that can't do both. Why feed two when you can get one to do both?
Don't see why you can hunt and not show them. Doesn't seem right, they either need to be allowed in both or neither at all in my opinion.

But what do I know right? I've gotten a lot of slack lately for my opinions... evidently when you have boobs that makes you deaf, dumb, and blind to men involved with hounds. Guess some men don't generally have an opinion on a topic that doesn't directly affect them... it is possible to feel strongly about something with nothing to gain either way.

I beleive they should be allowed in both unless altering them was performed due to a genetic defect, then no they should not be allowed to show. Hunting is a performance based test where a show is basically an inspection of a dog by the guidelines set forth in the breed standard for that particular breed. The shows are more of a breeders tool IMO. I've always felt that a huge mistake was made when they quit holding the grade hunts. I feel what should have been done was have registered casts and grade casts, the winners of both should then hunt heads up. The hunts should be to prove which dog is the best coondog, period. Dogs that have been altered should be required to have documentation from a liscensed vet stating that the dog was not altered due to a genetic defect prior to showing the dog. I dont beleive there are enough grade dogs left today to do this but if they would have done this years ago, you would probably still have seen some today.
