Has anyone crossed a Walker and a Kemmer and had good results?
Here is the reason I ask, I have been hunting with a Kemmer that a friend of mine has, he is a real nice tree dog with plenty of hustle and handles real nice. I have been hunting a male Walker with him that has plenty of nose and good tracking ability and is also a good tree dog. In 5 nights we treed 30 coon. Went hunting at 6pm home by 10pm, never ended up where we werent supposed to be and didnt have to get out the tracker once. I have a female Lone Pine bred walker with way to much drive(kind that get you in trouble every once in a while) that I have been thinking about breeding to him. Just wondering if anyone has any good results from crossing a kemmer on a walker.
The pair we hunted really benefited from each others respected abilities especially when the hound cold trailed coon that the kemmer didnt know was there. The hound also benefitted from the hustle that the cur had as the cur really hunted a woods nice. Just curious what other peoples experiances were.

terry me and my partner have four treeing cur pups that are half kemmer cur half walker that is lone pine breeding.i have two brindle and white pups he kept two that looked like walkers.they are 5 mnths old.ive taken my little female coon hunting she is very interested in it.ive took her three times.she will find a hang up but no tree yet.may have one for sale.the curs are target bred kemmers thanks ron

I have bred a male Walker dog to a Mountain Cur female once. She was a Kemmer Mountain Cur also. I have a very nice coming 3 year old female from doing this. She has a ton of drive, but jacks the hell out of a tree so I just run coyotes with her now and she catches a lot of them. I don't think you are gonna get any less hustle though nor do I think you will shorten up the hunt in them at all. Both the good Kemmers that I owned had as much hunt as any Walker dog. I kill the ones that don't just as I would any breed of dog. As far as nose power, I ain't seen a big difference there either, yet except on the junk ones just as in any breed. I know how the Mountain Curs got their reputation as being hot nosed dogs and I don't care for it to be honest. If you hunt the right strain of cur dog, you won't have to worry about hunt nor nose power.

I have a female, kemmer and walker cross that is awesome...i'm in the mankato area your welcome to see her go anytime...i have a 3/4ths cur and 1/4 th walker that is comeing along good, I also have a litter of half walker and half cur pups right now.....The cross is awesome, but can be hit or miss it all depends etc....

They are just like breeds and strains of hounds in that they all have their own style and abilities.

I didn't mean to be a smart ass at all about it. I just am telling you the truth. They are all different. I owned a few Kemmers that couldn't run a track to save their lives. Each of them were different. A few were track jackin sonsaguns and a few just couldn't or wouldn't run one. They didn't have the drive to get down to business. The best cur dog I have owned so far and probably the only good one so far though was a Kemmer. She could run a track with the best of them and probably a hell of a lot better than what folks think the best of them are. It just depends on the dog. I will say that a lot of the strictly squirrel dog type curs have a hard time treeing any big old running type coons cause they just don't have the patience or drive or whatever you want to call it to get the job done. They can still pop em up, but just won't stick to like an old feeder track or something of that nature. There are some many different type of curs that a fella would have a hard time putting into words how they hunt.
